Hemiresection-interposition arthroplasty for osteoarthritis of the distal radioulnar joint

Summary Hemiresection-interposition arthroplasty of the distal radioulnar joint has been carried out in 12 men. The indication was osteoarthritis with an intact triangular fibrocartilage, or when the fibrocartilage could be reconstructed. The average age was 41 years and average follow up for 53 months. In all the patients, there was relief of pain and a significant increase in movement and in grip strength.

Résumé L'arthroplastie par hémi-résection-interposition (AHI) a été réalisée chez 12 patients (tous de sexe masculin) présentant une arthrose radiocubitale inférieure. L'indication de l'AHI a été posée chez les malades dont le fibrocartilage triangulaire était intact ou reconstructible. L'âge moyen des patients était de 41 ans (32 à 63 ans). La période de surveillance post-opératoire a été de 53 mois en moyenne (de 35 à 75 mois). Les douleurs du poignet ont totalement disparu ou ont été notablement soulagées dans tous les cas. La mobilité pré-opératoire moyenne était de 53° d'extension et de 51° de flexion. Après l'intervention l'extension atteignait 68° et la flexion 64°. De même la prosupination était en moyenne de 69° à 64° avant l'opération et de 86° à 86° après celle-ci. Dans tous les cas on a également noté une augmentation importante de la force du poignet. L'amélioration de la mobilité et de la force est statistiquement significative (p<0.05).
