Epidemiologic survey of overweight and obesity among 1372 community old residents

Objective To investigate prevalence of overweight and obesity among residents aged≥60 years in Rong-gui community.Methods 1372(570 males,802 females) of total 1503 residents aged≥60 years in 2 villages randomly exampled in Rong-gui community were investigated.857 persons were aged 60—69 years,416 were aged 70—79 years and 99 were aged≥80 years.Investigated items included age,sex,body height,body weight,waist circumference(WC),FPG,TC, TG,blood pressure(BP),history of past illness,body mass index and waist hip ratio.Results The combined prevalence of overweight and obesity was 39.4%,and was 36.8%in males,41.3%in females,42.5%in 60—69 years,36.1%in 70—79 years and 27.2%in≥80 years.Prevalence of central adiposity was 34.6%,females were significantly higher than males(P<0.01).The FPG, TG,BP were higher in residents with overweight,obesity or central adiposity than in residents with normal weight or WC(P<0.01).Overweight,obesity and central adiposity were positively correlated with FPG,TG,BP(P<0.01).Conclusion The combined prevalence of overweight and obesity of residents aged≥60 years in Rong-gui community was lower than that in other districts. The rate of central adiposity was significantly higher in females than in males.Overweight, obesity and central adiposity were obviously correlated with FPG,TG,BP.
