Abstract:A comprehensive program focused on foot-specific patient education, skin and nail care, and protective footwear lowers the incidence of diabetic foot ulcers and lower extremity amputations. Orthopedic or podiatric consultations are warranted for those “at risk” or with foot ulcers. The author has stated that he does not have a significant financial interest or other relationship with any product manufacturer or provider of services discussed in this article.
