Abstract: | A morphometric CT study was performed on 17 children who were in a persistent vegetative state. Four cases with compromised brain stem function (group 1) showed a significantly smaller lateral pontine ratio (LPR, width of pons/greatest internal diameter between temporal bone) than the remaining 13 cases with preserved brain stem function (group 2) and controls. LPR was considered a useful indicator of brain stem atrophy and to correlate well with brain stem function. |
