Dosimetric influence of secondary electrons during accelerator-produced fast neutron irradiation

Abstract:1 MeV neutrons are produced by the 7Li(p, n)7Be nuclear reaction using 2.75 MeV protons and a target consisting of 3 × 10−4 g cm−2 Li evaporated on 1 g cm−2 Ta. The response due to secondary electrons was about 25% of the neutron response, but 1 mm polyethylene absorbs all these particles. This finding may be of particular interest for radiobiologists.
