Abstract:To analyze smoking rate of COVID-19(Coronavirus disease 2019) patients, the effect of smoking on the prognosis of COVID-19 patients, smoking and the infection mechanism of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2) these three aspects to illustrate the latest potential relationship between COVID-19 and smoking, and to provide theoretical reference for further research on COVID-19 and smoking. Methods The latest data of COVID-19 reported by the World Health Organization were extracted, and articles related to smoking and COVID-19 included in PubMed and CNKI database from 2000 to 2021 were reviewed. Results Smoking patients with COVID-19 had a higher risk of developing severe disease and death, but there was no conclusion as to whether the incidence of COVID-19 was higher among smokers than non-smokers, and to whether smoking increased the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conclusion Current research on COVID-19 and smoking is still in the preliminary stage, and more molecular and cellular experiments and more rigorous investigations are needed in the future, which will benefit COVID-19 patients, especially those who smoke.
Keywords:COVID-19  Smoking  SARS-CoV-2
