Influenza outbreaks in Yongxing, Hunan in 2009 and 2010

Objective To analyze the characteristics of influenza outbreaks in Yongxing,Hunan from 2009 to 2010,so as to provide scientific evidence for prevention and control of influenza.Methods On-the-spot investigation data of influenza outbreaks and laboratory test results were collected and chi-square test was used to analyze the data.Results Twenty-four influenza outbreaks occurred and 804 cases were found with the average incidence rate of 3.13%.The outbreaks mainly occurred in schools,and the peak of influenza epidemics in summer and winter.The viruses causing the outbreaks were influenza virus type A and B,and the main one was influenza A virus subtype H1N1.Conclusions It is of great importance to improve school sanitation,report epidemic situation earlier and vaccinate against influenza for the prevention and control of influenza.It is suggested that sentinel hospitals should be set up and the monitoring of the epidemic situations strengthened in Yongxing,Hunan.
