Changes of immunologic function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Objective To study the changes of immunologic function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).Methods Selected randomly 90 subjects with COPD and divided them into two groups which were COPD group of acute exacerbation(n=30) and COPD group of remission(n=60).At the same time,60 healthy subjects were chosen as control groups: healthy senile group(n=30) and 30 healthy non-senile group(n=30).Lymphocyte subpopulation,NK and B lymphocyte percentages in blood were determined.ResultsCompared with non-elderly healthy adults,CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+,B lymphocyte in healthy senile group were decreased(all P<0.05) while NK lymphocyte percentage was increased(all P<0.05).Compared with the healthy senile group,healthy non-senile group and COPD group of remission,COPD of acute exacerbation patients showed decrease of CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+ and B lymphocyte(all P<0.05),while NK lymphocyte were increased(all P<0.05).Compared with healthy senile group and healthy non-senile group,CD3+,CD4+,CD4+/CD8+,B lymphocyte in COPD group of remission were decreased(all P<0.05) while NK lymphocyte were increased(all P<0.05).Conclusion With the growth of age,immunologic function declines in healthy people.Abnormal immune responses can be found in COPD patients,especially during acute exacerbation.
