Current arsenic exposure in external environment in arsenic areas

Endemic arsenic poisoning is a serious health hazard, which can be classified into different types according to the sources of arsenic, including drinking water, coal, and occupational arsenic poisoning. Drinking water arsenic poisoning is caused by long-term exposure to arsenic in the water. Arsenic in water can also contaminate crops and soil, which indirectly cause poisoning. Coal arsenic poisoning is mainly found in Shaanxi Province and Guizhou Province. it＇s caused by the arsenic released from burning coal inhaled by human body or absorbed by baked food. Research has found that in high coal-arsenic areas, arsenic concentration in air and baked food is higher than what is stipulated in the national criteria. Occupational arsenic poisoning is caused by the mining of high-arsenic ores and the manufacturing and using of high-arsenic pesticides without proper protective measures, This paper reviews the status quo of arsenic exposure in different arsenic areas, in order to instigate the exposure and distribution of arsenic in the external environment.
