Objective To understand and analyze the centrality and structure of the medical market in Shenzhen so as to provide theoretical basis for further development. Methods The scales and market shares of the 97 hospitals in Shenzhen were analyzed, the HHI indexes for the medical market were estimated, the Lorenz curve was drawn, and the Gini coefficients were calculated. Results The HHI values of the medical market in Shenzhen were all smaller than 1000. With the scales of the hospitals indicated by the numbers of employees and beds, the Gini coefficients for the volume of outpatient and emergency services, the number of discharged patients and the volume of operations were all smaller than 0.40. Conehtsion The medical market in Shenzhen, which has a low centrality, is a monopoly competition market, with hospitals of different scales having relatively reasonable market shares. It is essential for Shezhen to make full use of the advantage of its well-developed medical market, brings its role into full play, and improve overall market efficiency through market competition.
