Abstract: | Abstract: Modified radical mastectomy and lumpectomy axillary node dissection with postoperative radiation therapy are both good surgical options for the treatment of early stage breast cancer. A number of parameters should be considered when evaluating a breast cancer patient for mastectomy versus breast conservation therapy. These parameters include size of the lesion and its biological characteristics as well as patient age and preference. Progress in breast cancer screening and treatment, including BRCA-1 testing and sentinel node biopsy, may also affect these decisions. |
