Abstract: | Linear poly(amino‐s‐triazine)s with segments of ten and twelve methylene groups have been synthesized and characterized. Their structure has been studied by means of X‐ray and electron diffraction, and molecular simulation. The polymers are found to crystallize in a unit cell very similar in chain axis projection to that of polyethylene. Furthermore, molecular simulation indicates that the polymethylene segments of the polymer chains are placed with a setting angle very close to that found in the polyethylene structure. The packing of the new polymers appears to be further stabilized by intermolecular hydrogen bonds that involve all nitrogen atoms of the amino‐triazine units. |
