Abstract:Sera from residents in a former endemic area of arseno-fluoride poisoning were analysed by atomic absorption spectroscopy to evaluate the remote effects of high arseno-fluoride on the contents of Cu, Zn, Fe and Mg in human sera after water improvement in the area. Forty-eight sera from patients with arseno-fluoride poisoning and 47 from patients with simple endemic fluorosis were tested with 24 sera from normal areas as control. Results showed that, after water improvement for 2 years, serum Cu, Fe and Mg contents varied within the nomal range with Zn content a little lower, the contents of Zn, he. Mg and Cu/Zn value in sera from patients with arseno-fluoride poisoning, however, were significantly different from those of the normal contents, suggesting that arseno- fluoride poisoning did more serious and lasting damages to humans.
