Surgical treatment combined with helmet fixation in children with anterior plagiocephaly caused by unilateral coronal craniosynostosis

Objective To summarize the clinical effects of operation combined with helmet fixation in the treatment of unilateral coronal craniosynostosis for children.Methods The clinical data of 8 patients with anterior plagiocephaly caused by unilateral coronal craniosynostosis were analyzed retrospectively.According to the features and severity of craniofacial deformity,as well as the results of skull plain CT scan and three-dimensional skull reconstruction,the individualized treatment plan was developed.Bone flaps were perforated and then cross-fixed with coarse silk thread.After surgery,the auxiliary helmet was used to fix the appearance for 3-4 months.ResultsAfter 7 to 50 months of follow-up,the results of deformity restoration were satisfactory.One patient was developmentally retarded before surgery and improved significantly after surgery.The skull CT scan performed 6 to 12 months after surgery showed no reclosure of craniosynostosis or formation of dead bone was observed.Conclusion Comprehensive operation combined with helmet fixation for the treatment of anterior plagiocephaly caused by unilateral coronal craniosynostosis is satisfactory in the early stage,and the long-term effect still need to be followed up.
