Abstract:In order to study the protective role of quercetin on diabetic neuropathy in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats, the motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV) and the content of advanced glycosylation end products (AGEP) in sciatic nerve were examined, in comparing with the effect of aminoguanidine (50 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 16 wk, ig). Quercetin (100 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 16 wk, ig) treatment significantly lowered the content of AGEP and improved the MNCV in the sciatic nerve. These findings suggest that quercetin may have a similar protective role in diabetic neuropathy as aminoguanidine.
