Abstract:The treatment of human hepatic stimulator substance for the acute liver failure induced by D-galactosamine in rats was evaluated. Thirty rats administrated with D-GL (1.2 gAg) were divided into 2 groups. The rats were treated with hHSS or saline 2 hours before being poisoned. It was demonstrated that the incorporation of 3H-TdR into hepatic DNA in the HSS group significantly increased compared with the controls, especially at 48 hours alter administration of D-GL. Autoradiograms showed that 3H-TdR was specifically incorporated into hepatocytes neclei. The morphologic changes showed that the damages to cellular and subcellular structures seen in the liver of HSS treated rats were much alleviated and rapidly repaired. The results suggested that HSS might be a new hepatic growth factor that could prevent liver from deterioration and promote hepatocyte regeneration.
