Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of high dose vitamin E(VE) on lipid metabolism in rats and provide experimental basis for intaking amount of VE.Methods 28 adult female Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups including control,low dose VE(400 mg·kg-1),medium dose VE(800 mg·kg-1),and high dose VE(1 600 mg·kg-1) groups.Administered by intragastrical route for 16 d,the blood samples were collected and the contents of TC,TG and HDL-C were measured,and the ratios of organ over body weight in liver,kidney and spleen were calculated.Results Compared with control group,the water volume and food consumed by rats in VE groups were less;the rats were less active.Compared with control and low dose VE groups,the body weights of rats in medium and high dose VE groups were decreased(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the ratios of organ over body weight in liver,kidney and spleen between control and VE groups(P>0.05).Compared with control group,the serum contents of TC,TG,and HDL-C in medium and high dose VE groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with low dose VE group,the contents of serum TC,TG,and HDL-C in medium and high dose VE groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in serum contents of TC,TG,and HDL-C between medium and high dose VE groups(P>0.05).Conclusion High dose VE intake can produce harmful effects on rats.Overdose of VE intake through oral administration will decrease the content of HDL-C and has adverse effects on lipid metabolism.
