Activity and learning in rats after magnesium pemoline

Summary Manesium pemoline enhances the learning of a conditioned avoidance response in rats. 24 hours later this enhancing effect is no longer significant. With the same doses, magnesium pemoline induces a marked hyperactivity. In an experimental situation of simple visual discrimination magnesium pemoline does not alter the performance of the animals but seems to bring about an abnormal fixation of certain types of behaviour.
