Abstract:Objective To study the efficacy, security and feasibility of stent-assistant angioplasty (SAA) in the treatment of vertebral artery origin stenosis. Methods The SAA was performed in 16 patients with symptomatic vertebral artery origin stenosis. Technical success rate, perioperative complication and long-term follow-up results were evaluated. Results 16 flexible balloon expandable stents were implanted in 16 patients. Technical success rate was 100%, and the average stenosis was reduced from (82.44±8.59)% to (4.19 ± 3.23)% (P 〈 0.01 ). No serious complications happened in pcrioperative period. During the further clinical follow-up period from 3 months to 32 months(mean 20.8 months), 2 patients had recurrence of symptoms, and the remaining patients had good effect and had no cerebral ischemic events. Of which 2 patients had in-stent restenosis . Conclusions SAA was a safe and effective method for treatment of senile vertebral artery stenosis.
