Abstract: | KTP/532 lasers have been used in a variety of medical applications since 1986. The authors have explored this relatively new wavelength in Japan in the field of rhinology, and report new aspects of KTP/532 laser application in endoscopic sinus surgery on the basis of confirmatory and subjective methods. Eighty patients with chronic sinusitis and mucoceles received KTP/532 laser endoscopic sinus surgery. The KTP/532 laser demonstrated excellent results showing reduction of post-operative polyps and granulation tissues around the enlarged maxillary sinus ostium. In addition, patients with chronic sinusitis demonstrated enhanced healing of the polypoid degeneration of the maxillary sinus. However, no significant improvement in the post-operative care was observed in the enlarged opening of mucoceles. It is concluded that the KTP/532 laser is a promising tool for endoscopic sinus surgery. |
