The Correlation of Ultrasound Mammography with Histopathology

Two hundred cases with breast mass were examined with B-mode ultrasonography. Their ultrasonographic featureswere comparatively studied with histopathology. Breast carcinoma usually showed thickjagged echogenic border caused by tumor infiltration and collagen proliferation, while benign tumor uaually showed thin smooth and loss echogenic border because of its capsule formation and expansion growth. The tumor acoustic attenuation was quantitatively proportional to the tumor entity and the amount of collagen within the tumor.Water-lipid interfaces appear to be more important for the production of echogenicity nature of the tumor and its border.
