An analysis of the items in the psychological screening of navy aviation cadets

Objective To analyze the items used in the psychological screening of navy aviation cadets recruiting battery （PSNACRB） and to improve the quality and efficiency of PSNACRB. Methods To track and investigate the scores achieved by the navy aviation cadets in flight examinations, and to analyze the predictive validity of the interview items used in the PSNACRB. Results Predictive validity of the research from the random sample （ N = 230） showed that some items, such as bare - handed gynmasties, sudden change in running direction, surmounting of obstacles, rope jumping, writing while playing a ball, simulated flight, stamina, emotion, temperament, and will power were closely correlated with scores of the flight training, while other items, such as reverse - di- reetion operation, relay numbering, pattern memory, block design, curve tracking, off - hand speech, outward appearance, intelligence, motivation, thinking were not markedly correlated with those of the flight training. All the unrelated items were deleted and obviously correlated items were maintained, and new testing procedures were established. And reassessment of the predictive validity of the interview items and comprehensive scores of psychological quality indicated that the correlation coefficient for interview scores and flight scores increased from 0.385（P 〈0.01 ） to 0.500（P 〈0.01 ） with the new testing procedures. The coefficient for comprehensive scores of psychological quality and flight scores increased from 0.463 （ P 〈 0.01 ） to 0.528 （ P 〈 0.01 ）. Besides, time consumption for the new test could be shortened by half. Same results were achieved, when another sample was tested and verified. Conclusion efficiency and benefit of the test could be obviously improved with PSNACRB. Careful screening of the interview items could prominently increase the quality and efficiency of psychological screening.
