Abstract:Objective To explore, the effects of applying PICC in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods A total of 264 breast cancer patients receiving intravenous ehemotherapy were divided into two groups,the PICC group (158 patients) and the traditional peripheral venous infusion group (106 patients). Intravenous infusion of both groups was operated by two nurses who received standardized training. The patients in the PICC group were managed in the following aspects:Comprehensive assessment and education before the operation, patient education in the process of operation and catheter management af- ter the operation. The incidence of complications including phlebitis, drug extravasation and tissue damage and the degree of patient satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the peripheral vein group,the PICC grnup had the lower incidence of complications and the higher degree of patients satisfaction ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion Applying PICC for breast cancer patients during chemotherapy is beneficial for protecting blood vessels, and thereby to ensure medication safety and reduce the incidence of the complications.
