Abstract: | The Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is widespread throughout the world. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the time-related change of antibody levels against Hepatitis E in primary school children. In this cross sectional study, the samples of 515 students were examined at two times. The mean age of the students was 7(6-13) years. The seroprevalences of anti-HEV were 1.7% and 2.1% at the first and second visits respectively. There was no statistically significant differences between anti-HEV seropositivity and the parents' education and employment status (p >0.05). This serosurvey shows that there is not a high prevalence of enterically transmitted viral hepatitis in Ankara, Turkey, which is a situation similar to developed countries. |
