Comparision of death causes between kidney transplant recipients died with a functioning graft and those died after graft loss

Objective To analyze the difference of the death causes between kidney transplant recipients died with functioning graft and those died after graft loss. Methods The clinical data of 207 cases of cadaveric kidney transplant recipients died between 2001 and 2010 were analyzed retrospectively. The data were divided into death with functioning graft group （n = 102） and death after graft loss group （n = 105）. Then the death causes of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results Generally the death causes were infection （ 31.9 % ）, cardiovascular disease （21.3 % ）, hepatic failure （ 15.94% ）, others （ 12.1% ） ,stroke （7.7%） ,gastric ulcer （6.3%） and malignant disease （4.8%） in turn. Death after graft loss group had much more patients died from cardiovascular disease than the other group（ P = 0.02） ; There was no significant difference in the incidence of other causes of death between the two groups. Conclusion Graft loss increases the incidence of cardiovascular death among kidney transplant recipients.
