Effect of total hip replacement on avascular necrosis of the femoral head

Objective： To observe the effect of total hip replacement on avascular necrosis of the femoral head.Methods： A total of 56 cases with avascular necrosis of femoral head admitted from Sep 2005 to Dec 2010 were treated by total hip replacement.The effect and incidence of complication were observed,and X-ray results were evaluated by Harris hip joint scale.Results： The score of Harris scale was significantly improved after surgery,the length and shape were in satisfactory recovery.There was no case with shortening limb,malformation,infection,pulmonary embolism,deep venous embolism,injury of lower extremity nerves,loosening prosthesis,sinking prosthesis or dislocation.All patients could walk and live independently.Conclusions： Total hip joint replacement is effective and of little complication.It is worthy extensive application in treating avascular necrosis of femoral head.
