Analysis of the status and influencing factors of discharge preparedness in elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy

Objective: To investigate the status of discharge preparedness in elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy, and analyze the influencing factors, so as to provide theoretical basis for improving the discharge preparedness in elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among 150 elderly patients with lung cancer who received first chemotherapy in the respiratory department of a tertiary class A hospital in Tianjin with general information questionnaire and discharge preparedness scale. Results: The total score of discharge preparedness of 150 elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy was 87.62±16.39. Multiple regression analysis showed that habitation mode, residence, monthly income per family, visual pain score, chemotherapy response and quality of discharge guidance were the major influencing factors of the discharge preparedness in elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy(P<0.05). Conclusion: The discharge preparedness in the elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy is in middle level. The nurses should pay more attention to the chemotherapy response, disease symptoms and solutions among the elderly patients with lung cancer after the first chemotherapy. According to the needs of home care in elderly patients receiving chemotherapy, family members should be encouraged to participate in the formulation and implementation of discharge guidance program to improve the discharge preparedness.
