Abstract: | A schizophrenic patient receiving neuroleptic treatment developed paralytic ileus followed by the neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). The patient had previously experienced two NMS episodes, one of which was also accompanied by paralytic ileus. It is suggested that paralytic ileus can occur as a prodromal symptom of NMS. Therefore, if this symptom is observed in patients receiving neuroleptic treament, especially those with a past history of NMS, careful attention should be paid to the possible development of NMS. |
