Abstract:In order to investigate the relationship between HBV and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),hepatitis B virus DNA(HBV DNA),HBxAg and HBcAg were detected in 44 paraffin-embedded samples of HCC tissue(17 cases with cancer-surrounding hepatic tissues) and 42 cases of liver cirrhosis(LC) by in situ hybridization(ISH).immunohistochemical(IHC) assay and double labelling of ISH and IHC.The results showed that the positivity of HBV DNA,HBxAg and HBcAg in cancer tissue were 70.5%,65.9% and 20.5% respectively, and HBV DNA,HBxAg and HBcAg were also detected, respectively,in 76.0%,76.0% and 29.4% of cases in cancer surrounding tissue. The positivity of HBV DNA, HBxAg and HBcAg in 42 cases of LC were 88.1%,69.0% and 33.3% respectively. In this study, the detection rates of HBV DNA,HBxAg and HBcAg in cancer surrounding tissue and in LC were higher than those in cancer tissue, but the differences were not statistically significant(P>0.05).The results of the study seem to suggest that chronic persistent infection of HBV might be closely related to the pathogenesis of HCC.
