| Abstract: | Summary: The Dalkon Shield was inserted in 180 multiparous women. Altogether 162 women-years were available for study. In contrast to earlier studies, it was found that the pregnancy rate of 3.7 per 100 women-years was higher than that of the Lippes Loop and the Double Coil while the expulsion and medical removal rates were similar. The Dalkon Shield did not appear to have any significant advantage over the Lippes Loop. |
