Abstract:Somatosensory evoked potentials have been useful in predicting coma outcome in children. We present a patient who failed to recover consciousness after a near-drowning episode and has remained in a vegetative state. The initial and subsequent somatosensory evoked potentials have been normal, illustrating that normal results do not necessarily portend a favorable outcome.
