Abstract:Structural-adaptive alterations in mitochondria and intercellular junctions are found in the liver against the background of elevated silicon when mineral siliceous water and silicon solution are applied internally. It is established that an increase of the number of tight and gap junctions takes place during the period of declining bioenergetic processes in hepatocytes. As the number and area of mitochondria increase, the extent of the intercellular junctions shrinks. These changes may be considered to be important components in the mechanism of action of siliceous water.
