Abstract: | Purpose of this study was to assess likelihood of undergoing breast reconstruction based on race, socioeconomic status, insurance, and distance from the hospital. Patients with public insurance were less likely to undergo reconstruction than patients with private insurance (OR = 2.99, p < 0.001). White patients were more likely to undergo reconstruction (OR = 0.62, p = 0.02). Patients who lived 10–20 miles and 20–40 miles from UCMC were more likely to undergo reconstruction (OR = 1.93, p = 0.01; OR = 3.06, p < 0.001). White patients and patients with private insurance are disproportionately undergoing breast reconstruction after mastectomy. |
