This study explored the relationship between active mediation, exposure to Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, and key indicators of preschoolers’ social and emotional development. One hundred and twenty-seven children aged 2–6 either watched or did not watch 10 episodes of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood over a two-week period. Results revealed that preschoolers who watched the program exhibited higher levels of empathy, self-efficacy, and emotion recognition when their regular TV-watching experiences are frequently accompanied by active mediation. This was especially true for younger preschoolers and preschoolers from low-income families. Implications for policy-makers, parents, producers of prosocial programming, and educators are discussed. 相似文献

Almost every national and supranational health policy document accords high importance to the need to listen to and ‘empower’
patients. The relationship between pharmaceutical policy and the lay public is not direct but mediated by several actors,
including health care workers, patient organisations, industry and, most recently, the media. Although the overall aim of
health and pharmaceutical policy is to address the needs of all citizens, there are only a few, well organised groups who
are actually consulted and involved in the policymaking process, often with the support of the industry. The reasons for this
lack of citizen involvement in health and pharmaceutical policymaking are many, for example: there is no consensus about what
public involvement means; there is a predominance of special interest groups with narrow, specific agendas; not all decision
makers welcome lay participation; patients and professionals have different rationalities with regard to their views on medicine.
Because the lay public and medicine users are not one entity, one of the many challenges facing policy makers today is to
identify, incorporate and prioritise the many diverse needs. The authors recommend research which includes studies that look
at: lay attitudes towards pharmaceutical policy; lay experiences of drug therapy and how it affects their daily lives; the
problem of identifying lay representatives; the relationship between industry and the consumers; the effect of the media on
medicine users and on pharmaceutical policy itself. The authors acknowledge that although lay involvement in policy is still
in its infancy, some patient organisations have been successful and there are developments towards increased lay involvement
in pharmaceutical policymaking.

Recently, the digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) standard introduced rules for the encoding, transmission,
and storage of the imaging diagnostic report. This medical document can be stored and communicated with the images in picture
archiving and communication system (PACS). It is a structured document that contains text with links to other data such as
images, waveforms, and spatial or temporal coordinates. Its structure, along with its wide use of coded information, enables
the semantic understanding of the data that is essential for the Electronic Healthcare Record deployment. In this article,
we present DICOM Structured Report (SR) and discuss its benefits. We show how SR enables efficient radiology workflow, improves
patient care, optimizes reimbursement, and enhances the radiology ergonomic working conditions. As structured input significantly
alters the interpretation process, understanding all its benefits is necessary to support the change.

Tuberculosis remained a very significant cause of death in Ireland until the mid-20th century and still occupies a prominent position in the folk memory. As I show with reference to recent Irish media coverage, the global resurgence of tuberculosis is therefore viewed with concern in Ireland. Using data collated by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre between 1998 and 2005 however, I show that the recent increase in tuberculosis incidence in Ireland is less than is popularly perceived. This increase is largely associated with economic immigrants attracted to Ireland by the ‘Celtic Tiger’ economic boom, but there is little evidence to suggest that this has had a negative impact on the Irish-born population. Drug resistance is still a small but growing problem. Whilst vigilance is required, it is argued that the recent increase does not at present indicate a likely return to the situation in the mid-20th century. 相似文献

Summary In a post mortem material of 17 cases of transposition of the great arteries (TGA) from patients with an age range from birth to two years and ten months after birth, the internal calibres of the great arteries and the ostia of the heart proved to be the same as in normal hearts. Furthermore, the media of the ascending aorta and pulmonary trunk showed no adaptation to the abnormal circulatory conditions in 15 cases of TGA with an age range from birth up to 51/2 months: in both great arteries the thickness of the tunica media and the packing density of its elastic fibres were the same as in normal hearts. However, adaptation of the tunica media of the pulmonary trunk to the abnormal circulatory conditions: increased media thickness, was found in the two remaining cases, older than 12 months. In 7 cases of pulmonary atresia (age from 1 day to 12 months) and in 9 cases of aortic atresia (age from 2 days to 37 days) the following observations were made. Vessels with reduced or absent function (ascending aorta in aortic atresia and pulmonary trunk in pulmonary atresia) showed a markedly different structure. In aortic atresia the internal calibre and thickness of the media of the ascending aorta were markedly reduced, whereas the packing density of the elastic fibres of the media remained the same as in normal hearts. In pulmonary atresia the pulmonary trunk showed large variations in internal calibre, whereas both media thickness and the packing density of its elastic fibres remained the same as in normal hearts. When the markedly enlarged single functional vessels (the pulmonary trunk in aortic atresia and the ascending aorta in pulmonary atresia) were compared no significant differences between their internal calibre, media thickness and the packing density of the elastic fibres were found indicating similar adaptation to the abnormal but comparable functional load of acting as sole arterial trunk. We are indebted to Prof. Dr. J. Moll for his help, to Dr. J.J. Willemse for statistical calculations, to Mr. P. Zondervan, M.D. (Dept. of Pathology I), for supply of material and to Mrs. L. Silvis for histo-technical assistance 相似文献

A few years ago, the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine standard introduced a network transaction that is initiated
by modality equipment, mainly at the beginning and at the end of the acquisition. This transaction, the Modality Performed
Procedure Step (MPPS), is sent to the Picture Archiving and Communication System and/or to the Radiology Information System.
It carries information about what really has been performed by the modality equipment during acquisition. In this paper, we
present MPPS and discuss its benefits. We show how MPPS enables efficient radiology workflow and how it ensures accuracy and
completeness of imaging information. We think our paper helps bridge the gap between MPPS implementation and deployment. By
understanding all the MPPS benefits, the end user becomes aware of the great enhancement in patient care that this transaction
provides. 相似文献
