The contribution of each monocular pathway to the timing of the binocular pattern visual evoked potential was assessed in situations where a significant interocular timing discrepancy was observed. Monocular and binocular pattern visual evoked potentials to 0.5° checks were recorded from normal subjects, normal subjects in whom one eye was blurred, patients with monocular amblyopia, and patients with resolved unilateral optic neuritis. Normal subjects showed facilitation, while suppression was evidenced in subjects with monocular blurring. In patients with amblyopia, the affected pathway had no effect on binocular pattern visual evoked potential latency, suggesting that the amblyopic eye was suppressed. In contrast, all patients with optic neuritis showed binocular averaging. Our results show that different forms of binocular interaction are evidenced in normal subjects, in amblyopia and in optic neuritis, and suggest that a comparative analysis of monocular and binocular pattern visual evoked potential peak times brings valuable information to the clinical evaluation that could be used to distinguish disease processes further.Abbreviation BPVEP binocular pattern visual evoked potential  相似文献

Monocular oscillatory-motion visual evoked potentials (VEPs) were measured in prospective and retrospective groups of infantile esotropia patients who had been aligned surgically at different ages. A nasalward-temporal response bias that is present prior to surgery was reduced below pre-surgery levels in the prospective group. Patients in the retrospective group who had been aligned before 2 yr of age showed lower levels of response asymmetry than those who were aligned after age 2. The data imply that binocular motion processing mechanisms in infantile esotropia patients are capable of some degree of recovery, and that this plasticity is restricted to a critical period of visual development.  相似文献

Inhomogeneous surrounds can produce either asymmetrical or symmetrical increment/decrement induction by orienting T-junctions to selectively group a test patch with surrounding regions [Melfi, T., & Schirillo, J. (2000). T-junctions in inhomogeneous surrounds. Vision Research, 40, 3735-3741]. The current experiments aimed to determine where T-junctions are processed by presenting each eye with a different image so that T-junctions exist only in the fused percept. Summary Dichoptic presentation of patterns similar in shape but of very different contrast results in the perception of only the high contrast pattern (binocular suppression). When recording from binocular neurons of the cat visual cortex, we have found an effect which is strikingly similar to this perceptual phenomenon. If a high and a low contrast grating are presented simultaneously, one to each eye, the cell's response to the low contrast stimulus is suppressed.  相似文献

Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), we explored the binocular interactions occurring when subjects viewed dichoptically presented checkerboard stimuli. A flickering radial checkerboard was presented to each eye of the subject, while T2*-weighted images were acquired over the visual cortex with gradient-echo, echoplanar sequences. We compared responses in striate and extrastriate visual cortex under four conditions: both eyes were stimulated at the same time (binocular condition), each eye was stimulated in alternation (monocular condition) or first the one eye then the other eye was stimulated (left eye first - right eye trailing, or vice versa). The results indicate that only the striate area, in and near the calcarine fissure, shows significant differences for these stimulation conditions. These differences are not evident in more remote extrastriate or associational visual areas, although the BOLD response in the stimulation-rest comparison was robust. These results suggest that the effect could be related to inhibitory interactions across ocular dominance columns in striate visual cortex.  相似文献

It has been shown that a patient with visual form agnosia (DF) relies predominantly on vergence information when gauging target distance in an open-loop pointing task. This finding suggested that the programming of prehension might be severely disrupted if DF viewed target objects through ophthalmic prisms. An initial experiment showed that this prediction was not upheld; DF was able to programme reasonably accurate movements to objects located on a tabletop despite large changes in vergence angle. A second experiment, however, showed that placing the target objects at eye height whilst manipulating vergence angle caused gross disruption to prehension, with DF mis-programming the reach component in a predictable manner. Notably, the evidence for DF's reliance on vergence distance information was obtained in a task where the targets were viewed at eye height. These experiments indicate that DF uses vertical gaze angle to gauge target distance in normal prehension and suggest that this extra-retinal cue may be a useful source of distance information for the human nervous system, especially where pictorial cues are impoverished. Quadratic summation is presented as a rule that describes binocular contrast summation. The rule asserts that for left-eye and right-eye contrasts CL and CR, there is an effective binocular contrast C given by the formula:C=(CL)2+(CR)2.Pairs of left-eye and right-eye stimuli that produce equal values of C are equivalent. Quadratic summation is applied to the results of experiments in which stimuli presented to the two eyes differ only in contrast. It provides a good, first-order account of binocular summation in contrast detection, contrast discrimination, dichoptic masking, contrast matching and reaction time studies. A binocular energy-detector model is presented as a basis for quadratic summation.  相似文献

目的 :探讨实验性屈光参差对健康成人双眼视功能的影响。方法 :对双眼视功能正常的大学生志愿者 32人采用在单眼前加不同度数正负球镜的方法 ,诱导单纯近视性 ( 1D , 2D , 3D)及单纯远视性 (-1D ,- 2D ,- 3D)屈光参差 ,测定诱导屈光参差后的视力、立体视敏度及Worth四点融像功能。结果 :随着屈光参差程度的增加 ,单纯“近视眼”的远视力逐渐下降 ,单纯“远视眼”的远视力几乎不下降。立体视敏度随着屈光参差度数的增加而下降 (t检验 ,P <0 .0 5 ) ,相同程度的单纯远视性屈光参差比单纯近视性屈光参差立体视敏度下降更明显 (t检验 ,P <0 .0 5 )。Worth四点定性试验证实了诱导屈光参差后双眼单视功能下降 (χ2 检验 ,P <0 .0 5 ) ,并有黄斑抑制的发生 ,Worth四点定量试验表明抑制区视角度数随着屈光参差程度的增加而增加 (t检验 ,P <0 .0 5 )。结论 :实验性屈光参差可引起成人双眼视功能异常 ,未矫治的屈光参差对儿童双眼视功能潜在性影响还需要进一步研究  相似文献
