Endoneurial hypoxia and a high frequency of closed capillaries have been found in chronic experimental diabetes and human diabetic sural nerve, respectively. These findings have led to the hypothesis that the pathogenesis of diabetic neuropathy is due to endoneurial hypoxia. To evaluate the role of endoneurial hypoxia in experimental diabetic neuropathy, the effects of supplementation and deprivation of oxygen on peripheral nerve lipid biosynthesis were studied in normal control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Defective lipid biosynthesis in diabetic nerve was partially prevented by oxygen supplementation. When normal rats were placed in a hypoxic chamber, lipid abnormalities similar to those observed in diabetic nerves were demonstrated in the absence of changes in nerve free sugars. These findings suggest that endoneurial hypoxia may underlie some key biochemical abnormalities encountered in experimental diabetic neuropathy.  相似文献

Concentrations of the vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, C, folic acid,A, E and ß-carotene were determined in blood and 24-hdialysate in 44 CAPD patients. Twenty-five of these patientswere studied during chronic treatment (mean 313 days, range60–1034 days). Nineteen patients were studied during training.In a longitudinal study, 11 patients were analysed again after77–507 (mean 238) days. In both patient groups a considerable portion of patients (11%–64%)had blood concentrations indicative of a deficiency of the vitaminsB1, B6, C and folic acid. The average concentrations of thesevitamins were normal in both groups. The only abnormal findingwas the mean EGOT activity being deficient in patients on chronictreatment. Mean concentrations of vitamin A were above normalin both groups. In the longitudinal study a significant increaseof vitamin B2 and a decrease of vitamin B6 in blood was found. When compared to 24-h excretion in normal urine, loss with 24-hdialysate was low for vitamin B1, normal to relatively highfor vitamin B2 and B6, but extremely high for vitamin C andfolic acid. The vitamins B12, A, E and carotenoids were hardlydetectable in the dialysate. In ten other patients the effect of daily supplementation with2 mg vitamin B6, 100mg vitamin C and 400 µg folic acidwas analysed during a 16-week period. In all patients a significantincrease in blood concentrations was obtained. It is concludedthat these dosages were sufficient to maintain a normal statusof these vitamins in CAPD patients.  相似文献

The database of the Hungarian randomised controlled trial of periconceptional multivitamin supplementation for the prevention of neural-tube defects was used to evaluate the length of the pre- and postovulatory phases of the menstrual cycle before and during multivitamin supplementation. 通过建立大鼠缺锌模型,观察缺锌及补锌对游泳大鼠血清、肝脏锌含量和五种含锌金属酶活性的影响。结果表明:(1)血浆锌浓度和碱性磷酸酶(AKP)活性是评价机体锌缺乏的灵敏指标;(2)血浆AKP活性同时也是评价运动大鼠锌缺乏的较好指标,而血管紧张素I转换酶、酸性α-D-甘露糖苷酶5-核苷酸酶等不太理想;(3)运动时,缺锌大鼠血浆锌金属酶活性多数变化剧烈,表明机体内环境遭受较大破坏。而补锌后上述指标均接近正常水平,说明适量补锌有助于改善机体缺锌状况,维持机体内环境的稳定  相似文献

妊娠期缺钙严重影响母婴的安全健康 ,其原因是由于妊娠期母体钙代谢发生变化 ,使母体血清游离钙离子浓度降低 ,血清铅浓度增高。有关研究表明 ,母体缺钙导致血铅竞争性过高 ,使胎儿身长、体重均小于胎龄儿 ,胎儿宫内发育迟缓的发生率增高 ,甚至发生早产、死胎等。同时发现血清钙离子可能对内源性一氧化氮合成释放起调节作用 ,而内皮素是最强的缩血管物质之一 ,母体补钙可调节一氧化氮与内皮素的平衡 ,从而降低妊高征的发生率。因此孕期补充钙剂是非常重要的。  相似文献

This study set out to compare the long-term palatability of three oral sip-feed supplements. Sixty patients with various malignancies were randomized to receive one of three products—Build-Up, Fortimel and Fortisip. Participants were encouraged to take as much of the supplements each day for as long as they could manage. At the initial tasting, palatability and acceptability of the products was recorded and this was repeated throughout the trial period. Patients' reasons for discontinuing the trial were noted.
Build-Up was found to be the best-tolerated product of the three. It was taken for a significantly longer time than either Fortimel or Fortisip. There was an indication that Build-Up was more acceptable at the initial tasting than Fortisip but not Fortimel. A smaller proportion of patients stopped taking Build-Up due to flavour-related reasons compared to Fortisip but there was no significant difference between Build-Up and Fortimel. In all, 54% of the patients discontinued the trial for flavour-related reasons. Thirty-five per cent found that the sip-feeds they had been allotted unpalatable at the initial tasting, while 19% stopped the trial due to 'flavour fatigue'. Only 10% of the sample continued taking their allotted product for 90 days or more.  相似文献

Summary Nutrient liposomes that incorporate peptones instead of serum proteins can be used for the lipid supplementation of insect cells in lieu of or in addition to vertebrate serum to enhance the growth or differentiation of specific insect cell types in culture. The technique described here for the preparation of nutrient peptoliposomes involves the combination of both natural and synthetic phosphatidyl cholines (containing essential polyunsaturated fatty acids) with appropriate sterols. These are protected against premature oxidation by antioxidants (glutathione, alanine, protein hydrolysates) and antioxidant synergists (citrate, ascorbate, plus other amino acids) in the basal tissue culture medium as well as in the liposomal preparation itself (alphatocopherol acetate and protein hydrolysates). The lipid components are filter sterilized in chloroform and then dried before aqueous sonication, allowing the subsequent formation of a random array of unsized uni- and multilamellar liposomes, which are suitable as direct suppliers of lipid nutrients as well as nutrient carriers for lipid-soluble supplements.  相似文献

Summary The effects of two levels of protein intake on muscle performance and energy metabolism were studied in humans submitted to repeated daily sessions of prolonged exercise at moderate altitude. For this purpose, 29 healthy males, were exposed to seven successive stages of ski-mountaineering at altitudes between 2500 and 3 800 m, and to an isocaloric diet (4000 kcal·day–1, 16760 kJ·day–1) with either 1.5g·kg–1·day–1 (C group,n =14), or 2.5 g·kg–1·day–1 (PR group,n =15) protein intake. Measurements made after the ski-mountaineering programme did not show any change in body mass. The peak torque during maximal isometric voluntary contraction (MVC) of the quadriceps muscle was unaffected by the repeated exercises, whereas the endurance time at 50% MVC was decreased in PR subjects (–26.8%,P<0.001). Increased levels of both free fatty acids (+147%,P<0.001) and glycerol (+170%,P<0.001) observed in C subjects would suggest that lipolysis was enhanced after the repeated exercise. The plasma amino acid pattern was altered after completion of the ski-mountaineering programme; the plasma concentration of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) was significantly decreased in C subjects, whereas the higher level of protein intake (PR group) greatly minimized the exercise-induced decrease in serum BCAA.  相似文献
