Introduction

Atherosclerosis is a systemic disorder. It is a frequent leading cause of coronary artery disease (CAD). Similarly, atherosclerotic vascular alterations could lead to testicular arterial blood flow reduction and impairment of testicular function with age. Inhibin-B has been validated as a valuable serum marker of testicular functions and its correlation with testicular volume was shown in some studies done before. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between serum inhibin-B levels and CAD in elderly men.

Material and methods

Between March 2009 and March 2010, fifty-two 50-80-year-old consecutive patients with Gensini score over 20 and ejection fraction (EF) > 50% were included in the study as the CAD group. Fifty healthy men without any cardiac disease history were recruited as the control group. All patients in the CAD group who had indications for coronary artery angiography underwent selective coronary artery angiography.

Results

Inhibin-B, total testosterone and testicular volume levels were found to be significantly lower in the CAD group in comparison with the control group (p = 0.004, p < 0.0001, and p = 0.001 respectively).

Conclusions

In this study, although no correlation was found in CAD patients between Gensini score and inhibin-B or testicular volume, inhibin-B levels and testicular volume were significantly lower in patients with CAD than in healthy men. In order to fully assess the relationship between serum inhibin-B levels and CAD, multi-centered prospective and longitudinal studies must be done in elderly male patients.  相似文献

Azoospermia can be either of obstructive ctiology or due to the testis' failure to initiate or maintain spermatogenesis. FSH acts through its receptor at Sertoli cell level and modulates spermatogenesis initiation and maintenance. Inhibin B is a Sertoli cell product expressing the functional capacity of the cell and in an indirect way the state of seminiferous tubule activity. Both FSH and inhibin B differentiate clearly testicular from extra-testicular pathology of azoospermia while, none of these hormones has been convincingly established as predictory index for the finding of spermatozoa in TESE.  相似文献

Purpose: The aim was to investigate the relationship ofintrafollicular inhibin dimers A and B with human oocytemorphology and subsequent embryo potential. Methods: Sixty-eight oocytes were isolated from 31 womenundertaking intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH),follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin, sexhormone-binding globulin, inhibin-A and inhibin-B was assayed incorresponding follicular fluid. Results: The mean (±SD) concentration for inhibin-A was9.7 ± 9.8 ng/ml (range, 1.1–60.0 ng/ml) and for inhibin-Bwas 269.4 ± 185.2 ng/ml (range, 33.1–811.0 ng/ml). In acorrelation matrix there were no marked relationships (r <0.556) between inhibin and steroid or gonadotropin concentrations. Similarly, when inhibin concentrations were dividedaccording to whether the oocytes had mature or immaturecumulous complexes, were viable or necrotic, were meiotically immature or mature, became fertilized or not, or haddifferent embryo gradings after cleavage, no statisticallysignificant difference could be seen between groupings. Conclusions: Because the range of values was large and thedata often skewed, neither inhibin dimer has discriminatorypower to reflect the potential of the oocyte.  相似文献

颗粒细胞抑制素B的表达及其在女性生殖中的意义   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
目的探讨抑制素B(INH-B)在颗粒细胞的表达与卵巢反应、卵子成熟及胚胎发育之间的关系。方法收集39名实施体外受精-胚胎移植(IVF-ET)者的颗粒细胞,通过免疫组化技术测定颗粒细胞INH-B表达强度。按照获卵数将患者分为三组,A组:获卵≤5枚;B组:获卵61~5枚;C组:获卵≥16枚。分析比较各组INH-B表达强度、胚胎实验室数据及临床结局。结果①A组的INH-B表达强度显著低于其他二组(P<0.001),B组与C组间INH-B表达强度无显著差异(P>0.05)。②颗粒细胞INH-B表达强度与获卵数、受精卵数、卵裂数及可用胚胎数呈正相关(均P<0.001)。③颗粒细胞INH-B表达强度与IVF-ET临床妊娠率无显著相关(P>0.05)。结论颗粒细胞INH-B表达可反映细胞自身的功能状态,颗粒细胞功能减退是卵巢反应减低、发育卵泡数目减少的主要原因之一。  相似文献

目的 探讨茶多酚(TP)对铝暴露大鼠睾丸支持细胞损伤的拮抗作用.方法 原代培养大鼠睾丸支持细胞.将细胞分为0 μmol/L AlCl3(对照组)、400 μmol/L AlCl3(铝暴露组)、40 μg/mL TP +400 μmol/L AlCl3组(低剂量拮抗组)、160μg/mL茶多酚+400 μmol/L AlCl3组(高剂量拮抗组),各组用相应的药物处理24 h.四甲基偶氮唑盐(MTT)法检测各组细胞的生长活性;逆转录-聚合酶链反应(RT-PCR)检测抑制素B(INHB) mRNA的表达.结果 与对照组比较,铝暴露组的细胞活性、IN-HB mRNA表达均明显下降,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05).与铝暴露组比较,低剂量拮抗组、高剂量拮抗组能够明显提高细胞活性,差别具有统计学意义(P<0.05).与铝暴露组比较,高剂量拮抗组能够明显提高INHB mRNA表达,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05).结论 高剂量TP能够拮抗铝对大鼠睾丸支持细胞的损伤.  相似文献

Inhibin-B as a test of ovarian reserve for infertile women.   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The objective of the study was to compare a standard clomiphene citrate challenge test with inhibin-B serum concentrations also obtained on cycle days 3 and 10 as a negative predictor of pregnancy in a group of 106 women at risk for compromised ovarian function. Mean duration of follow-up was 8.25 months in 95 patients with 30 pregnancies recorded (plus one biochemical). Inhibin-B concentrations on cycle days 3 and 10 were correlated only with each other and not with serum oestradiol, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and/or pregnancy rates. Pregnancy occurred in 34.5% (10/29) of all patients with inhibin-B values >/=45 pg/ml on cycle day 3 and in 31.8% (21/66) of those with values <45 pg/ml. For FSH >11 mIU/ml on either day, pregnancy rate was 13.6% versus 38.4% for FSH of inhibin-B testing.  相似文献

AIM: The value of serum inhibin-B as a predictor of the presence of testicular spermatozoa is still controversial. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the predictive value of the seminal plasma inhibin-B level, which might more directly reflect the secretion by Sertoli cells, and to discriminate between successful and failed testicular sperm extraction (TESE) in non-obstructive azoospermia. METHODS: Sixty-two patients with non-obstructive azoospermia were examined at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Niigata University Hospital, Niigata, Japan. The level of inhibin-B was measured using a two-site enzyme-linked immunoassay. RESULTS: Testicular sperm were successfully retrieved in 17 of 62 patients (27.4%). The serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were significantly lower and the serum and seminal inhibin-B concentrations were significantly higher in the successful TESE group compared with the failed TESE group. According to the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis, the best discriminating seminal plasma inhibin-B level was 27.0 pg/mL (sensitivity 88.2%, specificity 93.3%). The best discriminating serum inhibin-B level was 34.0 pg/mL (sensitivity 70.6%, specificity 95.6%). The area under the ROC curve for seminal plasma inhibin-B was significantly larger than that for FSH and testicular volume. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, only seminal plasma inhibin-B was an independent predictor of the presence of spermatozoa on TESE. CONCLUSION: Seminal plasma inhibin-B level is a useful predictor of the presence of testicular sperm in men with non-obstructive azoospermia.  相似文献
