The Effect of 0.02% Mitomycin C Injection into the Hair Follicle with Radiofrequency Ablation in Trichiasis Patients

Purpose

To investigate the inhibitory effect of 0.02% mitomycin C on eyelash regrowth when injected to the eyelash hair follicle immediately after radiofrequency ablation.

Methods

We prospectively included 21 trichiasis patients from June 2011 to October 2012. Twenty eyes of 14 patients were treated with 0.02% mitomycin C to the hair follicle immediately after radiofrequency ablation in group 1, while radiofrequency ablation only was conducted in ten eyes of seven patients in group 2. Recurrences and complications were evaluated until six months after treatment.

Results

One hundred sixteen eyelashes of 20 eyes in group 1 underwent treatment, and 19 (16.4%) eyelashes recurred. Eighty-four eyelashes of ten eyes in group 2 underwent treatment, and 51 (60.7%) eyelashes recurred. No patients developed any complications related to mitomycin C.

Conclusions

Application of 0.02% mitomycin C in conjunction with radiofrequency ablation may help to improve the success rate of radiofrequency ablation treatment in trichiasis patients.     

重睑切开缝合法联合灰线切开法治疗上睑内翻合并倒睫的效果

目的 分析对上睑内翻合并倒睫患者应用重睑切开缝合法联合灰线切开法治疗的效果。方法 选 取2022年5月-2023年5月我院收治的62例上睑内翻合并倒睫患者为研究对象,随机分为A组和B组,每组31 例。A组采用重睑切开缝合法治疗,B组采用重睑切开缝合法联合灰线切开法治疗,比较两组临床疗效、 治疗满意度、眼部症状评分、生活质量及并发症发生率。结果 B组治疗总有效率为93.55%,高于A组的 70.97%（P ＜0.05）;B组治疗满意度为87.10%,高于A组的61.29%（P ＜0.05）;B组术后畏光、流泪、刺激 感、异物感评分均低于A组（P ＜0.05）;B组术后躯体功能、社会功能、生理功能、心理功能、精神健康 评分均高于A组（P＜0.05）;B组并发症发生率为9.68%,低于A组的35.48%（P＜0.05）。结论 重睑切开缝 合法联合灰线切开法治疗上睑内翻合并倒睫的效果良好,可有效改善患者的眼部症状及生活质量,有利于 提高治疗满意度,且术后并发症发生风险较低,安全性较高。     

Ruby laser for the treatment of trichiasis

Trichiasis, the misdirection of eyelashes arising from their normal sites of origin, may cause discomfort, corneal abrasions, ulceration and scarring. The therapies currently used for this condition have a variety of success rates and complications. In this report we describe epilation using a ruby laser to treat ten patients (11 lids). In six patients laser treatment was completely successful in achieving alopecia, in three patients the treatment was partly successful, and one patient was lost to follow up. In all cases ruby laser treatment was well tolerated, and there were no reported complications; thus, ruby laser treatment can be a viable and well-tolerated option for the relief of the symptoms of trichiasis.     

Behandlung der Trichiasis mit einem Diodenlaser

BACKGROUND: Various methods have been used in the treatment of trichiasis: epilation, excision, cryosurgery, thermocaustic needle, and argon laser. None of these is satisfactory. Based on the principle of selective photothermolysis for destroying specifically the hair follicle, we used a diode laser and evaluated its efficacy. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Nineteen eyes with 301 itching lashes were treated in three sessions at intervals of 1 week. In each session the single hair follicle received laser energy of 20 J/cm2 at a frequency of 806 nm for 15 ms. We used a bare fiber of 0.8 mm at a distance of 2 mm from the follicle. RESULTS: After 4 months two-thirds of the hairs were destroyed. The regrown lashes, however, are lighter and softer than the original ones. This treatment is less painful than all others. The laser is small, easy to use, and inexpensive. CONCLUSIONS: The diode laser is a useful tool for the treatment of trichiasis. The laser parameters, however, should be ameliorated.     

倒睫治疗的进展

倒睫是指睫毛位置异常，以致触及眼球的不正常状况，是引起眼部疾病的常见原因。倒睫的治疗方法多样，治疗的主要目的是去除异常的睫毛，改善患者的症状。暂时性的治疗措施有涂眼部润滑剂，戴角膜接触镜进行保护，机械性的拔除倒睫。效果比较确切的治疗方法包括电解法，冷冻法，激光治疗以及手术治疗。本文介绍了相关的治疗方法并对其效果和并发症进行了阐述。
