The Heartbeat Award Scheme was launched in England in 1990 by the Health Education Authority as part of the national strategy to reduce the incidence of coronary heart disease. To date there has been no formal evaluation of the impact the award has had on catering practices. This study aimed to compare the differences between those premises with and without the award with regard to their catering practices. All Heartbeat premises (497) within the former Wessex region, along with 495 control premises without the award, were sent postal questionnaires. A total of 380 premises with the award and 306 premises without responded, representing a response rate of 77% and 62%, respectively. Respondents were grouped into one of three categories: public eating places, workplaces or educational establishments. Differences were found between award and non-award holders, particularly with regard to the provision of healthy food, including brown rice and semi/skimmed milk, healthy options available to the consumer and commitment to healthy eating. While this research suggests that the award scheme may be increasing consumer choice, it is not possible to draw conclusions about the impact of the scheme on eating habits. 相似文献

The 2012 meeting of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Study Group (FASDSG) focused on the development and ethics of biomarkers for fetal alcohol exposure. This one-day international conference brought students and trainees together with clinicians and researchers to discuss the latest research on FASD. One keynote speaker discussed the value of profiling epigenetic modifications in readily available fetal tissues to diagnose fetal exposure to environmental agents, while the second speaker discussed the ethics of biomarker development within the context of core principles of justice, autonomy, beneficence and non-maleficence. Three sessions of short data talks informed the audience of research advances with particular emphasis on the diagnosis of FASD. Other activities included updates on FASD-related activities by representatives of government agencies, a report on the implementation FASD-related diagnostic criteria in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) of the American Psychiatric Association and a networking lunch, and the presentation of the “Merit Award” to Dr. Nathan Muraski for his work on behavioral outcomes of fetal alcohol exposure. The capstone of the meeting was the presentation of the “Henri Rosett” award to Dr. Denis Viljoen, in recognition of his role in raising awareness about the incidence of FASD in South Africa and in promoting FASD prevention and treatment programs as chairperson and chief executive officer of the Foundation for Alcohol Related Research (FARR). 相似文献

Global healthcare expenditure is increasing, along with the numbers of older patients with multiple comorbidities, while the numbers of health workers are hugely decreasing, and many nursing and midwifery vacancies remain unfilled. With the World Health Organization declaring 2020 the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, and commencing the Nursing Now campaign with partners including the International Council of Nurses and the International Confederation of Midwives, has allowed these professions to unite, encourage advocacy and the call for global investment in nursing and midwifery. These actions will permit these professions to address universal health coverage, global inconsistencies of professional practice, and recruitment and retention. The Nightingale Challenge seeks to place early career nurses and midwives at the forefront of transformation, calling on employers worldwide to invest and provide nursing leadership development, and to become a key part of the solution to address the issues of providing universal health coverage, promoting gender equality and supporting economic growth. 目的通过分析和研究我国南丁格尔奖章获得者的社会学特征,弘扬南丁格尔精神,为我国护理事业发展提供精神导向。方法 平面媒体与电子媒体相结合收集有关南丁格尔奖章获得者的性别、学历、护龄、获奖年龄、所在省份、所在单位和突出成绩等资料并对其甄别、梳理和统计。结果(1)从第29届(1983年)我国参加南丁格尔奖章评选工作,至今(第41届,2007年)有48名护理工作者获得南丁格尔奖章。(2)获奖者中,藏族2名,满族1名,汉族45名;女性47名,男性1名;获奖时年龄(59.13±11.62)岁,护龄(38.88±11.25)年。(3)获奖者中,原始学历本科者2名,中专者46名。(4)46名获奖者担任或曾担任过护理行政职务。(5)获奖者所在地区分布于我国24个省。结论(1)危难时刻是考验护理人员弘扬南丁格尔精神的试金石;(2)南丁格尔奖章将向年轻、普通临床一线护士倾斜;(3)未来将会有更多高学历者获奖;(4)我国南丁格尔奖章比较关注欠发达地区。 相似文献

Three key aspects of Florence Nightingale's remarkable life are examined. First, the influences during her formative years: the education and guidance provided by her father, the resistance by her family when she decided to become a nurse; and the rejection by Nightingale of the societal expectations of a woman in the Victorian era. Secondly, her professional life is examined, in particular how she appears to have been viewed by certain members of society, and how in turn she viewed them. It is anticipated that her position as an early feminist will be postulated and illuminated.
