We describe a case of a palatal tic resembling palatal tremor (PT) in a young female patient with a previously unrecognized mild Tourette syndrome. At the time of her visit, the patient complained about ear clicks that were audible to others. When complex prostheses are fabricated, it is expected that at some point maintenance will be necessary. This clinical report documents a 10-year-old maxillary spark erosion prosthesis that had been repaired many times, was discolored, and exhibited significant signs of wear. The metal superstructure was intact; therefore, only the acrylic resin base and teeth needed to be replaced. To reduce both cost and time without the prosthesis for the patient, the rehabilitation was completed within 24 hours. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Embryotoxicity and teratogenicity of cadmium (Cd) and modulation of its effects by N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) were evaluated in mice. Pregnant ICR mice were intraperitoneally injected with 3.5 mg/kg of CdCl2 on day 10 or 11 of gestation (vaginal plug = day 0). Pregnant mice were pretreated with 160 mg/kg of NAC intravenously 2 hours before dosing with CdCl2 . Pregnant mice were killed on day 17 of gestation. Fetuses were examined for external malformations, especially limb malformations, cleft palate and abnormal palatal rugae. There was little difference in body weight gain of dams during the gestation period in the groups treated with NAC plus Cd as compared with the groups treated with Cd alone. Pretreatment with 160 mg/kg of NAC decreased the fetal mortality, incidence of cleft palate and abnormal palatal rugae induced by Cd on day 11. On day 10, pretreatment with NAC decreased the incidence of Cd induced abnormal palatal rugae. These results clearly indicate that NAC exerts protective effects against embryotoxicity and teratogenicity of Cd. 相似文献

A 23-year-old man suffered from palatal myoclonus for 2 years. It had appeared one week after a minor head trauma. MRI and basal cisternography revealed a localized atrophy of the left paramedian part of the medulla, encroached upon the left vertebral artery. Clonazepam treatment was beneficial. Towards unlimited colors for fluorescence in-situ

We describe a FISH protocol that allows rehybridization of complex DNA probes up to four times to the same specimen. This strategy, which we termed ReFISH, opens a wide range of new applications to conventional band pass filter epifluorescence microscopy. These include M-FISH karyotyping and cross-species color banding that emulate multiplex probe sets labeled with up to 12 fluorochromes in sequential hybridizations to the same specimen. We designed a human 24-color karyotyping probe set in combination with a 29-color cross-species color banding probe set using gibbon painting probes. Applying the ReFISH principle, 53 painting probes on individual metaphases were discriminated. This allowed simultaneous screening for inter- and intrachromosomal rearrangements on normal human diploid cells, a HeLa derived cell line, and highly rearranged gibbon chromosomes. Furthermore, the present ReFISH experiments successfully combine 24-color FISH with laser scanning confocal microscopy to study the 3D organization of all 46 human chromosome territories in individual interphase cell nuclei. 相似文献

目的建立大规模人群的分子流行病学队列研究生物库,确保快速、准确地识别每一份生物样本,并保持其活性,以便长时间跟踪研究。方法采用条形码识别技术对血液样品的采集、处理及存储、查询过程进行全程管理。结果创建成功以条形码自动识别技术为核心的新型运作管理模式,建立起10000人份的生物样品库。大型生物样本库实施条形码管理系统可缩短每份样品的处理时间,提高工作效率1.5倍。结论条形码技术的应用可有效地避免样品间的相互混淆,使实验室每一项工作准确、可靠、高效,实现医学研究工作全面信息化,提高基因队列研究的质量。 相似文献

all-trans retinoic acid (atRA), the oxidative metabolite of vitamin A, is essential for normal embryonic development. Also, high levels of atRA are teratogenic in many species and can effectively induce cleft palate in the mouse. Most cleft palate resulted from the failed fusion of secondary palate shelves, and maintenance of the normal cell proliferation is important in this process of shelf growth. To clarify the mechanism by which atRA causes cleft palate, we investigated the effect of atRA on proliferation activity and cell cycle distribution in mouse embryonic palatal mesenchymal (MEPM) cells. atRA inhibited the growth of MEPM cells by inducing apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. atRA also caused a G1 block in the cell cycle with an increase in the proportion of cells in G0/G1 and a decrease in the proportion of cells in S phase, as determined by flow cytometry. We next investigated the effects of atRA on molecules that regulate the G1 to S phase transition. These studies demonstrated that atRA inhibited expression of cyclins D and E at the protein level. Furthermore, atRA treatment reduced phosphorylated Rb and decreased cdk2 and cdk4 kinase activity. These data suggest that atRA had antiproliferative activity by modulating G1/S cell cycle regulators and by inhibition of Rb phosphorylation in MEPM cells, which might account for the pathogenesis of cleft palate induced by retinoic acid. 相似文献

BackgroundMaxillary canines are considered the most commonly impacted teeth, after the third molars. Orthodontists have different preferences on how to approach maxillary impacted canines (MIC). The objective of this article was to investigate orthodontists’ approach to managing MIC.Material and methodsA cross-sectional study comprising a comprehensive survey with 22 questions was sent to practicing orthodontists. This study explored the preferred diagnostic measures, surgical techniques, materials, and mechanics utilized to manage MIC;104 responses were returned.ResultsPalatal impaction was reported to be encountered more often than labial impaction by 60% of the respondents. In 62% of the respondents, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon was the specialist preferred to perform the surgical exposure. In 66%, the choice of required surgical techniques was reported as a joint decision between orthodontists and other specialists who perform the surgery. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was reported to be the diagnostic x-ray of choice. The gold button with a chain was the preferred bonded attachment in 86% of cases. Less than half of the respondents bonded the attachments themselves during surgical exposure. A clear plastic retainer was the preferred retainer in 61% of the respondents, and 43% of the respondents tended to use a closed exposure technique. Coe-pakTM was the preferred surgical pack for orthodontists who prefer an open exposure technique. Piggyback (double wire) was the preferable mechanic to move a palatally impacted canine.ConclusionOur findings indicate that there are variations among orthodontists on how to manage MICs in terms of diagnostic methods, surgical management, materials, and mechanics. 相似文献
