The importance of a published paper to a particular area is reflected in the quantity of citations obtained from peers. In burns, it is unknown which papers have been the most influential on this specialty. The purpose of our study was to identify the 100 most cited papers in burns and to analyze their characteristics. Twenty-seven journals were chosen for analysis. These included high impact factor scientific journals and journals dedicated to burns and trauma. Only twelve of these journals contributed to the 100 most cited papers in burns and we analyzed each paper individually looking at its subject matter, authorship, article type, institution, country and year of publication. Our citation analysis revealed an interesting mix of clinical and scientific papers that documents the key landmarks in burn care over the past 66 years. 相似文献
The aim of this study was to determine whether Subjective Interpretation of paper markings is a reliable method for identifying the relative occlusal force content of tooth contacts.
Methodology:
295 clinicians selected the “Most Forceful” and “Least Forceful” occlusal contacts in six occlusal-view photographs of articulating paper marks that were later compared against computerized occlusal analysis relative occlusal force measurements of the same tooth contacts. Means and standard deviations were calculated by years in clinical practice and by number of occlusion courses taken. A Chi-square analysis was also performed.
Results:
The mean correct for 295 participant dentists was 1·53 (±1·234). There were no significant differences found for years in practice (P>0·16) or number of occlusion courses taken (P>0·75). The Chi-square analysis showed a sensitivity of 12·6%, a specificity of 12·4%, a positive predictive value of 12·58%, and a negative predictive value of 12·42%. Chance was calculated at 12·5% correct.
Conclusions:
Subjective Interpretation is an ineffective clinical method for determining the relative occlusal force content of tooth contacts. The reported low scores obtained from a large group of participant dentists suggest clinicians are unable to reliably differentiate high and low occlusal force from looking at articulating paper marks. Transthyretin (TTR) familial amyloid polyneuropathy is a severe autosomal dominant neuropathy of adulthood, frequently linked to the pathogenic Val30Met variant of the TTR gene. The condition was initially described in northern Portugal, which is the first focus of the disease. Other important clusters of families are found in Sweden, Japan and South America. The origin of the Val30Met mutation and its distribution through the populations remains unclear. In the present work, we aimed at refining the history of the Val30Met mutation in patients affected with TTR amyloid neuropathy from Portugal, Sweden and Brazil. The decay of haplotype sharing was studied in 60 patients to estimate the age of the Most Recent Common Ancestor (MRCA) of mutation carriers in these populations. Our results showed a common haplotype in Portuguese and Brazilian patients and an age estimate of the MRCA of 750 and 650 years, respectively. In contrast, a different haplotype was found in the Swedish Val30Met patients with a corresponding age estimate for the MRCA, of 375 years. This work strengthens the hypothesis of different founders in Portuguese and Swedish Val30Met carriers and suggested a Portuguese origin of the Brazilian mutation. The age estimates of the MRCA are in line with the current historical knowledge of these populations. 相似文献
We investigated immunohistochemically the collagen type of the most superficial layer in 10 normal adult human articular cartilage specimens obtained from eight femoral heads and one each of the femoral condyle and the talus using routine light microscopy and polarizing microscopy. A membrane-like structure with strong bire-fringence covering the articular surface was observed under polarizing microscopy in each specimen. This structure was stained with anti-type I and anti-type III collagen antibodies but not with anti-type II collagen antibody. This immunohistochemical finding was identical to that in synovial tissue. The results of this study confirm that the most superficial layer of adult normal articular cartilage consists not of type II collagen but of types I and III, and that this layer is absolutely independent from its deeper layer. 相似文献
The analysis of mitochondrial (mt)DNA is a powerful tool in forensic genetics when nuclear markers fail to give results or maternal relatedness is investigated. The mtDNA control region (CR) contains highly condensed variation and is therefore routinely typed. Some samples exhibit an identical haplotype in this restricted range. Thus, they convey only weak evidence in forensic queries and limited phylogenetic information. However, a CR match does not imply that also the mtDNA coding regions are identical or samples belong to the same phylogenetic lineage. This is especially the case for the most frequent West Eurasian CR haplotype 263G 315.1C 16519C, which is observed in various clades within haplogroup H and occurs at a frequency of 3–4% in many European populations.In this study, we investigated the power of massively parallel complete mtGenome sequencing in 29 Italian samples displaying the most common West Eurasian CR haplotype – and found an unexpected high diversity. Twenty-eight different haplotypes falling into 19 described sub-clades of haplogroup H were revealed in the samples with identical CR sequences. This study demonstrates the benefit of complete mtGenome sequencing for forensic applications to enforce maximum discrimination, more comprehensive heteroplasmy detection, as well as highest phylogenetic resolution. 相似文献
