AimThis study aimed to compare the fracture resistance of roots filled with a bonded material, fiber posts, or titanium post systems.MethodsCanals in the first group were filled with AH Plus and gutta-percha cones, and roots in the second group were filled with Epiphany sealer and Resilon cones. The root fillings (60 roots) were removed up to 4 mm from the canal apex to obtain 10-mm-deep post spaces, and posts were cemented. The groups were as follows: AH Plus control group, Epiphany control group, AH Plus fiber post group, AH Plus titanium post group, Epiphany fiber post group, and Epiphany titanium post group. Fracture tests were performed by using an Instron testing machine. The force was applied at a 45° axial angle with a constant speed of 1 mm/min. For each sample, the force at which fracture occurred was recorded in units of newtons. Statistical analysis was carried out by using analysis of variance test.ResultsThere was no statistically significant difference between all groups (P > .05).ConclusionsTitanium posts, fiber posts, and Epiphany root canal filling systems were found to have no reinforcing effect on endodontically treated roots.  相似文献

AIM: To assess the bond strength of the new resin-based Epiphany-Resilon root canal filling system, and to compare this with bond strengths of different pairings of AH Plus, gutta-percha, Epiphany and Resilon. METHODOLOGY: A total of 65 extracted human single-rooted teeth were used. All teeth were instrumented using a set of ProTaper rotary instruments. Irrigation was performed with 15 mL of 1.25% NaOCl between each instrument and the smear layer was removed during and after instrumentation with 5 mL of 17% EDTA. The canal spaces were filled with different combinations of core and sealer using lateral condensation, as follows: group 1, AH Plus + gutta-percha; group 2, AH Plus + Resilon; group 3, Epiphany + Resilon; group 4, Epiphany + gutta-percha; group 5 (control), gutta-percha only. Cylinders of root dentine 1.13 (0.06)-mm long were prepared from the coronal sections of the 65 teeth. The test specimens were subjected to the push-out test method. After adhesion testing, the remaining sections were examined under a stereomicroscope at x 25 magnification to determine the nature of bond failure. The values of bond strength were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc Tukey's test, with significance set at P < 0.05. RESULTS: The respective mean push-out test values for groups 1-5 were: 2.000 +/- 0.369, 1.380 +/- 0.154, 1.706 +/- 0.340, 2.857 +/- 0.523 and 0.078 +/- 0.027 MPa. Significant difference (P < 0.001) occurred between the groups. Multiple paired comparisons (Tukey's test) revealed that group 4 (Epiphany + gutta-percha) had significantly (P < 0.001) greater bonding strength than all the other groups; group 1 (AH Plus + gutta-percha) had significantly (P < 0.05) greater bonding strength than group 2 (AH Plus + Resilon); and group 5 (control) had significantly (P < 0.05) lower bonding strength than all the other groups. Inspection of the surfaces revealed the bond failure to be mainly adhesive to dentine for all groups. CONCLUSIONS: The Epiphany-Resilon combination (group 3) was not superior to that of the AH Plus-gutta percha combination (group 1).  相似文献

Aim To evaluate the effectiveness of hand and rotary instrumentation for removal of vertically compacted Epiphany and gutta‐percha during retreatment. Methodology Sixty extracted single‐rooted maxillary central incisors were enlarged to size 40 using FlexMaster instruments. The teeth were randomly divided into four groups of 15 specimens each. The canals of two groups were obturated using vertically compacted Epiphany. The others were filled with vertically compacted gutta‐percha and AH Plus sealer. One Epiphany group and one gutta‐percha group was reinstrumented with Gates Glidden burs and Hedström files. In the other two groups, obturation material was removed using Gates Glidden burs and RaCe rotary instruments. After clearing the roots, the area of remaining obturation material on the root canal wall was measured using a computer image analysis program. Statistical analysis was performed using Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance and anova . Results Retreatment of specimens obturated with gutta‐percha showed significantly more remaining obturation material than specimens filled with Epiphany (P < 0.05). No difference was found between the removal with Hedström files and with RaCe instruments (P > 0.05). Regarding the mean time of retreatment and time required for reaching the working length, Hedström files were significantly faster than RaCe instruments (P < 0.05). The times did not depend on the kind of obturation material (P > 0.05). Conclusions Vertically compacted Epiphany in combination with Epiphany Root Canal Sealant was removed more effectively than gutta‐percha and AH Plus sealer. Hedström files were more rapid than RaCe rotary instruments.  相似文献

AIM: To compare the detectability of residual Epiphany and gutta-percha after root canal retreatment using a dental operating microscope and radiographic examination with the residual area measured after rendering the roots transparent. METHODOLOGY: Sixty extracted single-rooted maxillary central incisor teeth were enlarged to apical size 40. Thirty canals were filled using vertically compacted Epiphany, the remainder were filled with vertically compacted gutta-percha and AH Plus sealer. After re-instrumentation to apical size 50, radiographs of the roots were taken in buccolingual and mesiodistal direction. Residual filling material was categorized by three observers using the radiographs and a dental operating microscope. The area of remaining material that was made visible by radiographs was measured with the aid of a computer image analysis programme. After clearing the roots, areas of residual filling material on the root canal wall were measured using a microscope. RESULTS: Computer image analysis of the radiographs showed significantly smaller areas of remaining gutta-percha and Epiphany compared with the analysis of the transparent teeth that revealed only one absolutely clean root (Epiphany). Especially in the gutta-percha group, the scores determined by the observers using radiographic examination gave an over-optimistic impression of cleanliness compared with the scores determined by the visualization through the microscope. CONCLUSION: Especially for remaining gutta-percha, the operating microscopes provided better detection of residual root filling material in retreated maxillary incisor teeth.  相似文献

Introduction

The purpose of this study was to measure the average depth of dentinal tubule sealer penetration in the middle third of teeth obturated with gutta-percha/AH Plus (Dentsply, DeTrey, Konstanz, Germany), Resilon/Epiphany (Pentron Clinical Technologies, Wallingford, CT), and Resilon/Epiphany self-etch (SE) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Methods

The root canals of 36 extracted single-rooted human teeth were prepared and randomly divided into three groups. Obturations were performed with the following filling materials using the lateral compaction technique: group 1, gutta-percha/AH Plus; group 2, Resilon/Epiphany; and group 3, Resilon/Epiphany SE. The specimens were prepared for SEM examination. The average depth of sealer penetration into the dentinal tubules was measured. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and a post hoc Tukey test.

Results

The mean (± standard deviation) values for the average depth of sealer penetration in the middle third of the roots were 22.07 ± 6.92 μm, 31.56 ± 6.80 μm, and 21.50 ± 9.25 μm for AH Plus, Epiphany, and Epiphany SE, respectively. The average penetration depth of Epiphany was significantly higher than that of Epiphany SE and AH Plus (P < .05). There was no significant difference between the penetration depth of Epiphany SE and AH Plus (P > .05).

Conclusions

It could be concluded that the average penetration for Epiphany into dentinal tubules within the middle third of the roots was significantly deeper than that of Epiphany SE and AH Plus.  相似文献

The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the active versus passive dye microleakage and apical sealing ability of laterally condensed gutta-percha/AH Plus versus Resilon/Epiphany. One hundred and twenty teeth were instrumented and divided into experimental, positive and negative control groups. In group 1, the teeth were obturated with gutta-percha/AH Plus and in group 2 the teeth were obturated with Resilon/Epiphany. The apical seal was evaluated with a passive and active dye penetration test. Absorbance of the extracted dye was determined with a spectrophotometer. Resilon/Epiphany showed less dye penetration in comparison with the gutta-percha/AH Plus group (P < 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the passive and active dye penetration tests (P > 0.05). In this in vitro study, canals obturated with Resilon/Epiphany showed less apical leakage than those obturated with gutta-percha/AH Plus, regardless of the type of dye penetration test used.  相似文献

目的:比较不同根管充填体系进行根管充填后行纤维桩修复的牙体根尖微渗漏情况.方法:收集32颗下颌第一前磨牙,截冠、拔髓,随机分成3组(GP组,R/E组,F组,n=10),根管预备后,分别采用牙胶+ AH-plus、Resilon/Epiphany、Fibrefill充填根管并行即刻桩道预备和粘固纤维桩;印度墨水染色并透明处理后显微镜下测定根尖微渗漏的长度并统计学分析.另外两颗做为阳性对照.结果:GP组显示出最高渗漏发生率(100%),F组最低(60%);GP组的渗漏长度明显高于R/E组(P =0.002)和F组(P =0.001),R/E组与F组之间无显著性差异(P = 0.879).结论:Resilon/Epiphany系统和Fibrefill系统对于根管治疗并纤维桩修复的牙体较牙胶有更好的根尖封闭性能,二者之间差异无显著性.  相似文献
