The study examined predictors of children's prosocial responses to adult negative emotions. An adult displayed anger, sadness and pain during play sessions with 39 preschoolers (mean age = 43 months). Older children responded more prosocially to all three emotions, whereas children with greater emotion knowledge responded more prosocially to the adult's sadness. Children who behaved prosocially in response to peers' negative emotions also were prosocial after the adult's negative emotions, even with effects of age and emotion knowledge held constant. Assertive children responded more prosocially to the adult's anger, even with effects of other variables held constant. Both theoretical and practical implications are discussed.  相似文献

The strong reciprocity model of the evolution of human cooperation has gained some acceptance, partly on the basis of support from experimental findings. The observation that unfair offers in the ultimatum game are frequently rejected constitutes an important piece of the experimental evidence for strong reciprocity. In the present study, we have challenged the idea that the rejection response in the ultimatum game provides evidence of the assumption held by strong reciprocity theorists that negative reciprocity observed in the ultimatum game is inseparably related to positive reciprocity as the two sides of a preference for fairness. The prediction of an inseparable relationship between positive and negative reciprocity was rejected on the basis of the results of a series of experiments that we conducted using the ultimatum game, the dictator game, the trust game, and the prisoner’s dilemma game. We did not find any correlation between the participants’ tendencies to reject unfair offers in the ultimatum game and their tendencies to exhibit various prosocial behaviors in the other games, including their inclinations to positively reciprocate in the trust game. The participants’ responses to postexperimental questions add support to the view that the rejection of unfair offers in the ultimatum game is a tacit strategy for avoiding the imposition of an inferior status.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The role of psychological factors related to headache has long been a focus of investigation. The aim of this study was to evaluate depression, automatic thoughts, alexithymia, and assertiveness in persons with tension-type headache and to compare the results with those from healthy controls. METHODS: One hundred five subjects with tension-type headache (according to the criteria of the International Headache Society classification) and 70 controls were studied. The Beck Depression Inventory, Automatic Thoughts Scale, Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and Rathus Assertiveness Schedule were administered to both groups. Sociodemographic variables and headache features were evaluated via a semistructured scale. RESULTS: Compared with healthy controls, the subjects with headache had significantly higher scores on measures of depression, automatic thoughts, and alexithymia and lower scores on assertiveness. Subjects with chronic tension-type headache had higher depression and automatic thoughts scores than those with episodic tension-type headache. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggested that persons with tension-type headache have high depression scores and also may have difficulty with expression of their emotions. Headache frequency appears to influence the likelihood of coexisting depression.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Background: Addiction has been reported as a major personal, social and political challenge in people of different strata and education levels in all countries. The present study was conducted to predict addiction potential based on sensation-seeking, psychological hardiness and assertiveness in students.

Methods: The present correlational study was conducted in 2018 on a statistical population comprising all the students of the School of Medicine in Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences, Kermanshah, Iran. Convenience sampling was used to select 200 subjects. The data collection tools included the sensation-seeking scale, the psychological hardiness questionnaire, the assertion inventory and the addiction potential scale. The data collected were analyzed in SPSS using the statistical methods of the Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis.

Results: Analyzing the findings showed the total scores of addiction potential and active addiction potential are positively associated with the total score of sensation-seeking and negatively and significantly correlated with that of psychological hardiness.

Conclusions: Given the role of sensation-seeking, psychological hardiness and assertiveness in addiction potential, university authorities are recommended to hold workshops and seminars to enhance the awareness of students of the personality traits conducive to addiction.  相似文献

Multidisciplinary care teams exist throughout healthcare systems. In the operating room (OR), effective communication between teams is essential, especially during crisis situations where patient safety can be in acute danger. An often-neglected skillset in educational curriculums is challenging authority. This narrative synthesis aims to explore the literature on challenging authority in the OR environment. A systematic search of Medline, EBM reviews and PsycINFO was conducted using terms related to challenging authority, speaking up, communication, patient safety, gradients and hierarchy. The initial search identified 4822 publications, out of which 31 studies were included. The data synthesis of the included studies was grouped into three distinct categories following a meta-aggregative approach: discussion and review articles, observational or qualitative studies, and studies identifying the role of specific barriers or investigating the effect of educational interventions. Themes emerging from expert beliefs, what reality tells us and what we test are consistent. Hierarchy, organisational culture and education are the most frequently observed and tested themes. Simulation research has been successful in eliciting and confirming the role of specific barriers to speaking up. Barriers and enablers are largely modifiable within institutions however, education regarding the importance of speaking up will need to accompany these modifications for any significant changes to occur.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to explore the assertiveness process in Iranian nursing leaders. A qualitative design based on the grounded theory approach was used to collect and analyze the assertiveness experiences of 12 nurse managers working in four hospitals in Iran. Purposeful and theoretical sampling methods were employed for the data collection and selection of the participants, and semistructured interviews were held. During the data analysis, 17 categories emerged and these were categorized into three themes: "task generation", "assertiveness behavior", and "executive agents". From the participants' experiences, assertiveness theory emerged as being fundamental to the development of a schematic model describing nursing leadership behaviors. From another aspect, religious beliefs also played a fundamental role in Iranian nursing leadership assertiveness. It was concluded that bringing a change in the current support from top managers and improving self-learning are required in order to enhance the assertiveness of the nursing leaders in Iran.  相似文献
