Determination of oxidative stress parameters and DNA fragmentation on post-thawed buck semen in the presence of ram seminal plasma and fetal calf serum

The aim of the study was to investigate the efficiency of ram seminal plasma and fetal calf serum on freezing of buck semen. Twenty ejaculates were collected using an electro-ejaculator and split into six groups. While FCS additive was not used in A1, A2 and A3 groups, 10% FCS was added to B1, B2 and B3 groups. These groups were then edited according to whether the buck or ram SP was involved. The design of the groups was done as follows: Group A1 (control 1), group A2 without buck SP, group A3 containing ram SP instead of buck SP. Groups B1 (control 2), B2 and B3 were the FCS added forms of these groups. Progressive sperm motility percentages in Group A1 and Group B2 were found to be higher when compared to the lowest Group B3. There were no significant differences between the groups in neither the levels of reactive oxygen species nor the enzyme and glutathione activities. In conclusion, the lack of statistical difference between the groups suggested that despite the supplements used but only when the buck spermatozoa structure was healthy, the cell could preserve acrosome, DNA and the integrity of membrane.     

代文胶囊治疗高血压120例的疗效观察

目的分析并评价代文胶囊治疗高血压病的临床治疗效果。方法对我院自2008年2月至2010年12月期间采用代文胶囊进行治疗的120例轻中度高血压患者的临床资料做回顾性分析。结果本组120例患者中,76例口服80mg/d,44例口服160mg/d。其中66例为显效,占55%,42例为有效,占5%,12例为无效,占10%,治疗后总有效率达90%。120例患者治疗后收缩压的T/P比值为71.94%(15.2mmHg/21.4mmHg);舒张压的T/P比值为66.23%(10.4mmHg/16mmHg)。本组120例患者治疗前后肝、肾功能以及血、电解质水平均在正常范围内,未见咳嗽病例。结论代文胶囊具有平稳降压的作用,其24h控制血压效果好,可以避免晨间血压上升,是一种安全并有效的降压药,在降压过程中未见不良反应,对患者的依从性较好。     

Inhibitory effect of Panax notoginseng on nitric oxide synthase, cyclo-oxygenase-2 and neutrophil functions

A water extract of Panax notoginseng Buck F.H. Chen. (Arialiaceae) root (PN) is being used as a therapeutic agent to stop haemorrhages and as a tonic to promote health in Korean and Chinese medicine. The pharmacokinetic profiles of PN have not been accurately investigated. The preliminary aim was to elucidate the pharmacokinetic features of PN. First, the prevention of neutrophil functions was assessed. PN inhibited neutrophil functions, including degranulation, superoxide generation and leukotriene B4 production, without any effect on 5-lipoxygenase activity. PN reduced nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin (PG)E2 production in mouse peritoneal macrophages stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) while no influence on the activity of inducible NO synthase (iNOS), cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX-2) or cyclo-oxygenase-1 (COX-1) was observed. PN significantly reduced mouse paw oedema induced by carrageenan. The results indicate that PN exerts antiinflammatory effects related to the inhibition of neutrophil functions and NO and PGE2 production, which could be due to a decreased expression of iNOS and COX-2.     

Buck法螺钉固定联合椎板-横突植骨术治疗腰椎椎弓峡部裂

目的 探讨Buck法螺钉固定联合椎板-横突植骨术治疗腰椎椎弓峡部裂合并轻度腰椎滑脱的手术效果。方法 应用Buck法螺钉同定联合椎板-横突植骨融合,治疗10例合并Ⅰ～Ⅱ度腰椎滑脱的腰椎椎弓峡部断裂。结果随访8个月～4年,均达骨性融合,腰痛等症状缓解。结论Buck法螺钉固定联合椎板-横突植骨融合技术治疗合并Ⅰ～Ⅱ度以内滑脱的腰椎椎弓峡部裂,手术创伤小,对腰椎生理影响小,疗效可靠。

Pathology of testis and epididymis in native goats in southern Iran

A slaughterhouse-based survey was conducted to determine the type and the prevalence of lesions in the testis and epididymis of native bucks reared in southern Iran. Testis, epididymis, and tunica, which belonged to 425 bucks of various age groups, were inspected. The specimens were collected randomly during a 6-month period. Various abnormalities in testis and the epididymis were observed. Grossly, testicular mineralization was the most prevalent abnormality (n = 183, 45%) followed by degeneration or hypoplasia (n = 26, 6.4%), adhesion (n = 20, 4.9%), cryptorchidism (n = 12, 2.9%), congenital testicular cyst (n = 9, 2.2%), abscess (n = 4, 0.9%), and orchitis (n = 1, 0.2%). As the age of the bucks increased, the percentages of mineralization increased significantly (p < 0.05). Based on the results of the gross examination, congenital epididymal cysts were the most prevalent abnormality (n = 57, 14.4%) then followed by epididymal abscess (n = 12, 2.9%), melanosis (n = 10, 2.5%), and epididymitis (n = 3, 0.7%). Congenital epididymal cysts, 1 to 2 mm in diameter, were mostly located on the head of the epididymis. On histopathological examination, mineralization showed the highest prevalence rate in testis followed by hypoplasia and degeneration, besnoitiosis, orchitis, and edema. Besnoitiosis was also the predominant lesion in the head and tail of the epididymis followed by epididymitis, hypoplasia or degeneration, melanosis, and sperm granuloma. Besnoitia cysts were found in 11.3% of the testes, 14.1% of the epididymal heads, and 7.5% of the epididymal tails.

Background

Pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) are nonprofit organizations with a primary mission of promoting childbirth among pregnant women. Given a new state grant program to publicly fund PRCs, we analyzed Georgia PRC websites to describe advertised services and related health information.

不同类型降压药物对老年原发性高血压患者动脉僵硬度的影响分析

目的：研究两种不同降压药物在治疗老年原发性高血压后患者的动脉僵硬度的变化。方法在该院于2014年5月—2015年9月收治的老年原发性高血压患者中随机选出120例作为观察对象,按照口服的降压药物类型分成两组,A组57例患者服用缬沙坦,B组63例患者服用马来酸左旋氨氯地平;统计分析两组患者治疗前后的舒张压、收缩压、超敏C反应蛋白、肱踝脉搏波传导速度等指标。结果A组患者治疗后的收缩压、舒张压分别为(113.8±7.6)mmHg、(72.4±7.3)mmHg;B组为(111.2±8.2)mmHg、(70.2±8.4)mmHg,组间差异无统计学意义,P﹥0.05;A组患者的hs-CRP、baPWV分别为(8.4±0.7)mg/L、(9.5±1.1)m/s;B组为(7.0±0.5)mg/L、(7.2±1.0)m/s;B组明显低于A组,P﹤0.05。结论在老年原发性高血压的治疗中采用马来酸左旋氨氯地平治疗能在取得满意降压效果的情况下改善动脉僵硬度,对于降低心血管事件风险具有重要意义。     

Modified Appleby procedure for locally advanced pancreatic cancer

Locally advanced pancreas cancer (LAPC) involving the celiac axis is typically considered unresectable and carries a poor prognosis. We present a case of a patient with LAPC who underwent a modified Appleby procedure for tumor clearance following neoadjuvant therapy. Technical aspects include diagnostic laparoscopy to exclude occult metastatic disease followed by complete mobilization of the pancreas and spleen, preservation of the left gastric artery, and resection and reconstruction of the common hepatic artery. With proper patient selection and preparation, LAPC with celiac axis involvement can be safely resected with favorable outcomes.
