The dynamic and functional state of soda lime can be more precisely assessed by measuring changes in wall temperatures of the absorption chambers rather than observing color change of the soda lime granules. We demonstrated in this report that the liquid crystal thermometer is an inexpensive and reliable measuring device for this purpose.  相似文献

A 77-year-old man, who underwent segmental pancreatectomy for intraductal papillary mucinous adenoma in 2001, was referred to our hospital with complaints of hematemesis and melena on January, 2004. Emergency upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a pulsating submucosal protrusion in the duodenal bulb, which was identified as a gastroduodenal arterial aneurysm measuring 1.5cm on abdominal CT imaging. Transcatheter arterial embolization of the aneurysm with metallic coils was successfully performed. Periodically repeated endoscopic examination has revealed the coils protruding into the duodenal lumen without any serious complication.  相似文献

Nasopharyngeal secretions obtained from 94 children with acute respiratory illness were examined for the presence of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), adenovirus, and influenza virus type A by virus culturing (virus isolation technique [VIT]), immunofluorescence assay (IFA), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Similar results were obtained in at least two tests for RSV, influenza virus type A, and adenovirus in 92 (97.9%), 88 (93.6%), and 88 (93.6%) cases, respectively. Both rapid virus detection methods showed good specificity for the diagnosis of these virus infections (greater than or equal to 90.7%) and were more sensitive than was VIT for RSV detection. In a more accurate statistical analysis, the indexes of agreement between VIT and ELISA were substantial for RSV (kappa = 0.69; zeta = 5.5; P less than 0.0001), influenza virus type A (kappa = 0.67; zeta = 5.3; P less than 0.0001), and adenovirus (kappa = 0.71; zeta = 6.0; P less than 0.0001), while it was almost perfect for RSV when ELISA was compared with IFA (kappa = 0.88; zeta = 5.7; P less than 0.0001). Although the observed agreement was good in the comparison of these two tests for these three viruses (89%0, the indexes of agreement were moderate in the comparison of IFA and VIT for RSV (K = 0.55; Z = 2.0; P < 0.05), influenza virus type A (K = 0.42; Z = 9.7; P < 0.0001), and adenovirus (K = 0.41; Z = 6.5; P < 0.0001) and of ELISA and IFA for influenza virus type A (K = 0.55; Z = 7.0; P < 0.0001) and adenovirus (K = 0.59; Z = 6.8; P < 0.0001). All of the statistical evaluations demonstrated better agreement between ELISA and VIT for influenza virus type A and adenovirus.  相似文献

Three postmenopausal women with breast carcinoma underwent the fine-needle aspiration (FNA) preoperatively, and these specimens were stained by the antiaromatase antibody. We evaluated the identification of the aromatase immunoreactivity in breast carcinoma specimens obtained from both FNA and surgery. FNA specimens showed positive intracellular immunoreactivity of aromatase in these cases. The presence for aromatase in FNA specimens was identified with that in the surgical specimens. To our knowledge, the present cases are the first to report the aromatase staining of FNA specimens. The immunoreactivity of aromatase in FNA specimen may be useful to estimate the effectiveness of new aromatase inhibitors in patients with breast carcinoma. HUM PATHOL 32:348-351.  相似文献

T lymphocytes encounter hypoxia when they migrate to pathological sites such as tumours and wounds. The inability of T cells to provide an efficient defence at these sites can in part be explained by the hypoxic environment. Kv1.3 channels, important components of the T cell activation process are inhibited by hypoxia and their inhibition accounts for a hypoxia-induced decrease in T cell proliferation. Although Kv1.3 channels play a key role in T cell O2 sensing, the signalling mechanisms mediating their response to hypoxia are still not understood. In this study, we show that the src-protein tyrosine kinase p56Lck (Lck) is required for Kv1.3 channel response to hypoxia. Pre-exposure to the src inhibitor PP2 abolished the hypoxia-induced inhibition of Kv1.3 channels in primary human T lymphocytes. Moreover, Kv1.3 channel sensitivity to hypoxia was lost in Lck-deficient Jurkat T cells. Further studies with recombinant Kv1.3 channels showed that Kv1.3 channels lack intrinsic O2 sensitivity, but delivery of Lck into the cells and transfection of a constitutively active Lck (Y505FLck) restored their sensitivity to hypoxia. Although Lck is necessary for the Kv1.3 channel response to hypoxia, it does not directly inhibit Kv1.3 channels. Indeed, under normal oxygen tension, delivery of active Lck into L929 cells and overexpression of Y505FLck did not decrease recombinant Kv1.3 currents. On the contrary, activation of endogenous src kinases increased wild-type Kv1.3 currents in T lymphocytes. Our findings indicate that Lck is required for the acute response to hypoxia of human T lymphocytes as it is necessary to confer O2 sensitivity on Kv1.3 channels.  相似文献

The adjuvant activity of chemically synthesized 6-O-acylated muramyl dipeptides (MDP) was tested in aqueous form. The activity was assessed by determining immunoglobulin G (IgG) titers in sera of mice immunized with hepatitis B virus surface antigen, influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) vaccine, or tetanus toxoid with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Administration of 6-O-acyl-MDP analogs with antigens induced marked enhancement of primary and secondary IgG antibody responses and maintained high antibody levels for at least 7 weeks. Among the analogs tested, an MDP methyl ester carrying a 6-O-3-hexadecanoyl-oxytetradecanoyl group (compound 309) exhibited the most intensive adjuvant activity. Its activity was stronger than that of 6-O-2-tetradecylhexadecanoyl (B3O)-MDP used as a positive control. However, accumulation of peritoneal cells and activation of peritoneal macrophages by compound 309 was weaker than that by 6-O-B30-MDP, suggesting that 309 as an immunoadjuvant is more suitable for vaccination in terms of its stronger enhancement of antibody formation and lower induction of inflammatory response than 6-O-B30-MDP.  相似文献
