Objective

The aim of the present investigation was to determine whether the difference in inflammatory tissue reaction between the Riccinus communis (castor) polymer with calcium carbonate and the titanium implant is statistically significant.

Methods

Thirty-two Cavia porcellus were allocated into four groups of eight animals each. We implanted the two types of materials in the retroperitoneal space of all the animals. They were euthanized at 7, 20, 30 and 40 days after surgery, and an histological study of the samples was conducted.

Results

All implants showed characteristics of chronic inflammation regardless of the material and timepoint of evaluation. There was no statistically significant difference between Pm+CaCO3 and Ti with regard to the presence of granulation tissue, tissue congestion, histiocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils, giant cells, and fibrosis (P> 0.05).

Conclusion

The castor oil polymer plus calcium carbonate implant was not statistically different from the titanium implant regarding inflammatory tissue reaction.  相似文献

This work describes the use of a hidden Markov model (HMM), with a reduced number of states, which simultaneously learns amino acid sequence and secondary structure for proteins of known three-dimensional structure and it is used for two tasks: protein class prediction and fold recognition. The Protein Data Bank and the annotation of the SCOP database are used for training and evaluation of the proposed HMM for a number of protein classes and folds. Results demonstrate that the reduced state-space HMM performs equivalently, or even better in some cases, on classifying proteins than a HMM trained with the amino acid sequence. The major advantage of the proposed approach is that a small number of states is employed and the training algorithm is of low complexity and thus relatively fast.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: This paper proposes a novel method for the extraction and classification of individual motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) from intramuscular electromyographic signals. METHODOLOGY: The proposed method automatically detects the number of template MUAP clusters and classifies them into normal, neuropathic or myopathic. It consists of three steps: (i) preprocessing of electromyogram (EMG) recordings, (ii) MUAP detection and clustering and (iii) MUAP classification. RESULTS: The approach has been validated using a dataset of EMG recordings and an annotated collection of MUAPs. The correct identification rate for MUAP clustering is 93, 95 and 92% for normal, myopathic and neuropathic, respectively. Ninety-one percent of the superimposed MUAPs were correctly identified. The obtained accuracy for MUAP classification is about 86%. CONCLUSION: The proposed method, apart from efficient EMG decomposition addresses automatic MUAP classification to neuropathic, myopathic or normal classes directly from raw EMG signals.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a 3-hour incubation with 17beta-estradiol will enhance blood flow- and bradykinin-mediated dilatation and alter pressure-induced basal tone in myometrial resistance arteries from women with preeclampsia and to evaluate the role of nitric oxide in the responses that were observed. STUDY DESIGN: Blood flow- and bradykinin-mediated dilatation and responses to intraluminal pressure of 60 and 80 mm Hg were compared before and after 3 hours of incubation with 17beta-estradiol (10(-8) mol/L) in isolated myometrial arteries with the pressure myography technique. In separate experiments, the role of nitric oxide on 17beta-estradiol-induced responses was evaluated in the presence of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor (10(-4) mol/L). Endothelial morphologic condition was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: Incubation with 17beta-estradiol significantly improved blood flow-mediated dilatation compared with initial blood flow-mediated response in arteries from women with preeclampsia. This effect was nitric oxide mediated, because the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor abolished the response. Arteries from women with preeclampsia demonstrated impaired bradykinin-mediated dilatation compared with that obtained in arteries from normal pregnant women. The 17beta-estradiol had no effect on bradykinin-mediated dilatation in arteries from women with preeclampsia. The enhanced pressure-induced tone at 80 mm Hg compared with the tone that developed at 60 mm Hg in arteries from women with preeclampsia was reduced after incubation with 17beta-estradiol. This reduction was also nitric oxide mediated. Morphologic signs of endothelial dysfunction were evident in arteries from women with preeclampsia. CONCLUSION: The 17beta-estradiol improved impaired blood flow-mediated dilatation and reduced basal tone through a nitric oxide-mediated pathway in isolated myometrial arteries from women with preeclampsia.  相似文献

A method for the extraction and classification of individual motor unit action potentials (MUAPs) from needle electromyographic signals is presented. The proposed method automatically decomposes MUAPs and classifies them into normal, neuropathic or myopathic using a two-stage feature-based classifier. The method consists of four steps: (i) preprocessing of EMG recordings, (ii) MUAP clustering and detection of superimposed MUAPs, (iii) feature extraction and (iv) MUAP classification using a two-stage classifier. The proposed method employs Radial Basis Function Artificial Neural Networks and decision trees. It requires minimal use of tuned parameters and is able to provide interpretation for the classification decisions. The approach has been validated on real EMG recordings and an annotated collection of MUAPs. The success rate for MUAP clustering is 96%, while the accuracy for MUAP classification is about 89%.  相似文献

Summary A general scheme of chromosome alterations occurring during tumor progression is proposed from the cytogenetic study of 113 breast carcinomas. For 76 of these tumors, chromosome numbers and rate of chromosome rearrangements were correlated with DNA content studied by flow cytometry. A series of 536 cases was used as control for flow cytometry. The following evolution can be proposed: 1. occurrence of unbalanced rearrangements decreasing chromosome number and DNA content; 2. correlatively to the rate of chromosome rearrangements, formation of endoreduplications leading to hyperploid sidelines; 3. persistence of the near diploid cells and decrease of chromosome number to about 35 and of DNA index to .85; 4. more frequently, elimination of the near diploid cells and complete passage to hyperploidy; 5. further losses of chromosomes in the hyperploid tumors, whose karyotypes can decrease to about 55 chromosomes and a DNA index of 1.35; 6. eventually, occurrence of a second endoreduplication, leading to an apparent near tetraploidy. The rate of rearranged chromosomes may reach 80% in both near diploid tumors with 35–40 and hyperploid tumors with 55–65 chromosomes which can be regarded as those with the highest degree of tumor progression. It is shown that the increase of chromosome number and DNA index above diploidy is very limited, and that all tumors with more than 50 chromosomes and 1.35 DNA content passed through endoreduplication. This results in many possible losses of heterozygosity in these cases.  相似文献
