We describe the clinical and demographic characteristics, virological follow-up, and management of five confirmed monkeypox cases from New Delhi, India without any international travel history. The viral load kinetics and viral clearance were estimated in oropharyngeal swabs (OPS), nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS), EDTA blood, serum, urine, and various lesion specimens on every fourth day of follow-up ranging from 5 to 24 post onset day (POD) of illness. All five cases presented with mild to moderate-grade intermittent fever, myalgia, and lesions on the genitals, groins, lower limb, trunk, and upper limb. Four cases had non-tender firm lymphadenopathy. No secondary complications or sexually transmitted infections were recorded in these cases except for the presence of viral hepatitis B infection marker hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) in one case. All the cases were mild and had a good recovery. A higher viral load was detected in lesion fluid (POD 9), followed by lesion roof (POD 9), urine (POD 5), lesion base (POD 5), and OPS/NPS (POD 5). The monkeypox virus (MPXV) DNA was detected in clinical samples from 5th to 24th POD. These monkeypox cases without international travel history suggest the underdiagnosed monkeypox infection in the community. A compelling case for promoting male circumcision (MC) as an intervention for reducing the risk of heterosexually acquired HIV infection was made by dissemination of the results of three studies in Africa. The WHO/UNAIDS recommendation for MC for countries like India, where the epidemic in concentrated in high-risk groups, advocates MC for specific population groups such as men at higher risk for HIV acquisition. A multicentre qualitative study was conducted in four geographically distinct districts (Belgaum, Kolkata, Meerut and Mumbai) in India during June 2009 to June 2011. Two categories of health care providers: Registered Healthcare Providers (RHCPs) and traditional circumcisers were interviewed by trained research staff who had received master's level education using interview guides with probes and open-ended questions. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling. A comparative analysis of the perspectives of the RHCP vs. traditional circumcisers is presented. Representatives of both categories of providers expressed the need for Indian data on MC. Providers feared that promoting circumcision might jeopardize/undermine the progress already made in the field of condom promotion. Reservation was expressed regarding its adoption by Hindus. Behavioural disinhibition was perceived as an important limitation. A contrast in the practice of circumcision was apparent between the traditional and the trained providers. MC should be mentioned as a part of comprehensive HIV prevention services in India that includes HIV counselling and testing, condom distribution and diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. Several experimental studies have been made in the past to try to understand the nature of the fluid-induced changes in the intracranial pressures of the animals by infusing fluid into their craniospinal complex. The objective of the present investigation was to study the changes in the characteristics of the ventricular and epidural pressure-volume curves when a dog was subjected to repeated fluid infusion tests. The animals were subjected to three cycles of infusion tests with a time interval of either 10 min or 2 h between any two successive tests. An infusion test repeated 10 min after the preceding test exhibited a significant change in the characteristics of the ventricular fluid pressure (VFP) response but not in the epidural pressure (EDP) response. However, in the case of an infusion test which was repeated 2 h after the preceding test, it was observed that both the VFP and EDP responses remained the same as those found in the first infusion test. 相似文献

Signaling Lymphocyte Activation Molecule-SLAM (CD150) molecule has been reported as a putative receptor for most morbilliviruses for their respective host
species. In this study, we determined the complete nucleotide sequence of the gene coding for the morbillivirus receptor-SLAM
from the four species, namely, goat (Capra hircus), sheep (Ovis aries), Indian cattle (Bos indicus), and buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). The nucleotide (nt) open reading frame sequence of SLAM gene in all the four species studied was 1017 nucleotides in length
encoding a polypeptide of 339 amino acids (aa), similar to Bos taurus, but different from canine, human, marmoset, and mouse SLAM, which were 1029, 1008, 1011, and 1032 nts, respectively, in
length, and coding for 343, 336, 337, and 344 aa, respectively. Sequence analysis revealed 96.3–98.5% and 92.9–96.8% identities
among the four species at the nt and aa level, respectively. Sequence diversity at aa level between various species revealed
that the critical functional region of SLAM protein among different species is relatively conserved, thereby facilitating
this molecule to act as a receptor for morbillivirus. Phylogenetic relationship based on the aa sequences of SLAM protein
revealed that caprine, ovine, cattle, and buffalo fall under a defined cluster but caprine SLAM is more closely related to
