Previous developmental studies on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) have proposed several hypotheses on the formation of its articular cavity. However, detailed information is meager. The present study examined the formation process of the articular cavity in the rat TMJ by immunocytochemistry for CD31, RECA-1, and ED1, which are useful cellular markers for endothelial cells and monocyte/macrophage lineages, respectively. The upper articular cavity formation had begun by embryonic day 21 (E21) and was completed at postnatal day 1 (P1) in advance of the lower cavitation; the latter took place from P1 to P3. The occurrence and distribution pattern of the CD31-, RECA-1-, and ED1-positive cells differed between the upper and lower articular cavity-forming areas: the ED1-positive cells exclusively occurred in the area of the prospective upper articular cavity prior to its formation, while no ED1-positive cell appeared in the lower cavity-forming area. In contrast, the CD31- and RECA-1-positive endothelial cells were restricted to the lower cavity-forming area (never the prospective upper cavity) at E19 and diminished thereafter. Throughout the cavity formation, we failed to find any apoptotic cells in the cavity formation area, indicating no involvement of apoptosis in the cavity formation in TMJ. The present findings on the behaviors of endothelial cells and ED1-positive cells show a possibility of different mechanism in the cavity formation between the upper and lower articular cavities in the rat TMJ. The appearance of ED1-reactive cells and temporal vascularization may play crucial roles in the upper and lower articular cavity formation, respectively. 相似文献

Coxsackievirus B is the most common cause of viral myocarditis and is particularly virulent in neonates and children. Adenovirus is also a leading cause of the disease. The determinant of tropism for both viruses is considered to be the expression of coxsackievirus and adenovirus receptor (CAR) in target organs. However, developmental change and physiological localization of CAR in the heart are unknown. We examined expression levels of CAR in rat hearts by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis and found that CAR decreased gradually during postnatal development, although CAR was detectable, even in adults. Immunohistochemistry revealed CAR on the whole surface of cardiomyocytes in immature rat hearts. In contrast, CAR was detected predominantly on intercalated disks in the adult heart and was accumulated especially at the contact point between the cultured cardiomyocytes, even though they were prepared from the neonatal rat heart. In conclusion, CAR was expressed abundantly on the whole surface of cardiomyocytes in immature rat hearts. Both the expression level and the localization of CAR are possible determinants of the susceptibility to viral myocarditis of neonates and children. 相似文献

We investigated temporal changes in the amplitudes of motor-evoked potentials (MEPs) induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation
over the left motor cortex during motor imagery. Nine subjects were instructed to imagine repetitive wrist flexion and extension
movements at 1 Hz, in which the flexion timing was cued by a tone signal. Electromyographs (EMGs) were recorded from the first
dorsal interosseous, flexor carpi radialis and extensor carpi radialis muscles of the right hand, and magnetic stimulation
was delivered at 0, 250, 500 and 750 ms after the auditory cue. On average, the evoked EMG responses were larger in the flexor
muscle during the phase of imagined flexion than during extension, whilst the opposite was true for the extensor muscle. There
were no consistent changes in the amplitudes of MEPs in the intrinsic hand muscle (first dorsal interosseous). The EMG remained
relaxed in all muscles and did not show any significant temporal changes during the test. The H-reflex in the flexor muscle
was obtained in four subjects. There was no change in its amplitude during motor imagery. These observations lead us to suggest
that motor imagery can have dynamic effects on the excitability of motor cortex similar to those seen during actual motor
performance.

Polyethylene/phospholipid polymer alloy as an alternative to poly(vinylchloride)-based materials 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
To develop new biomaterials for making medical devices, polymer alloys composed of a phospholipid polymer, poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC), and polyethylene (PE) were prepared. The PE/PMPC alloy membrane could be obtained by a combination of solution mixing and solvent evaporation methods using xylene and n-butanol mixture as a solvent. Moreover, thermal treatment was applied to improve the mechanical properties of the PE/PMPC alloy membrane. In the PE/PMPC alloy membrane, the PMPC domains were located not only inside the membrane but also at the surface. Surface analysis of the PE/PMPC alloy membrane with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, wettability evaluation, and dynamic contact angle measurements revealed that the phospholipid polar groups in the PMPC covered the surface even after thermal treatment. Blood compatibility tests with attention to platelet adhesion and change in morphology of adhered platelets showed that the PE/PMPC alloy membrane had excellent platelet adhesion resistance. Objective
We aimed to investigate the effect of known heart disease on post‐out‐of‐hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survival outcomes, and its association with factors influencing survival.Methods
This was an observational, retrospective study involving an OHCA database from seven Asian countries in 2009–2012. Heart disease was defined as a documented diagnosis of coronary artery disease or congenital heart disease. Patients with non‐traumatic arrests for whom resuscitation was attempted and with known medical histories were included. Differences in demographics, arrest characteristics and survival between patients with and without known heart disease were analysed. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to identify factors influencing survival to discharge.Results
Of 19 044 eligible patients, 5687 had known heart disease. They were older (77 vs 72 years) and had more comorbidities like diabetes (40.9 vs 21.8%), hypertension (60.6 vs 36.0%) and previous stroke (15.2 vs 10.1%). However, they were not more likely to receive bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (P = 0.205) or automated external defibrillation (P = 0.980). On univariate analysis, known heart disease was associated with increased survival (unadjusted odds ratio 1.16, 95% confidence interval 1.03–1.30). However, on multivariate analysis, heart disease predicted poorer survival (adjusted odds ratio 0.76, 95% confidence interval 0.58–1.00). Other factors influencing survival corresponded with previous reports.Conclusions
Known heart disease independently predicted poorer post‐OHCA survival. This study may provide information to guide future prospective studies specifically looking at family education for patients with heart disease and the effect on OHCA outcomes. 相似文献10.

CD151, one of the tetraspanins, forms a stable complex with integrin alpha3beta1, the major laminin receptor on the cell surface. We found that 8C3, an anti-CD151 mAb obtained by screening for reactivity with integrin alpha3beta1-CD151 complexes, was capable of dissociating CD151 from integrin alpha3beta1, thereby allowing us to deplete CD151 from purified integrin alpha3beta1-CD151 complexes. The CD151-free integrin alpha3beta1 thus obtained showed a significant reduction in its ability to bind to laminin-10/11, a high-affinity ligand for integrin alpha3beta1, with a concomitant reduction in its reactivity with mAb AG89, which recognizes activated beta1-containing integrins. These results raised the possibility that the association of integrin alpha3beta1 with CD151 potentiates the ligand-binding activity of the integrin through sustaining its activated conformation. In support of this possibility, the ligand-binding activity was restored when CD151-free integrin alpha3beta1 was reassociated with purified CD151. 8C3-induced dissociation of CD151 from integrin alpha3beta1 was also demonstrated on the surface of living cells by fluorescent resonance energy transfer imaging, accompanied by a concomitant reduction in the cell adhesion to laminin-10/11-coated substrates. CD151 knock-down by RNA interference also resulted in a reduction in the adhesive activity of the cells. Taken together, these results indicate that CD151 association modulates the ligand-binding activity of integrin alpha3beta1 through stabilizing its activated conformation not only with purified proteins but also in a physiological context. 相似文献
