Low-artifact intravascular devices: MR imaging evaluation   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Flow-phantom magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, with use of both spin-echo (SE) and gradient-echo (GRE) techniques at 1.5 T, was performed on the percutaneous Greenfield (beta-III titanium alloy [TMA wire]), Amplatz (MP32-N alloy), and Simon nitinol filters and TMA wire facsimiles of the bird's nest, Gunther, new retrievable, and Amplatz vena caval filters. SE imaging allowed detection of thrombi as small as 5 X 5 mm trapped within the percutaneous Greenfield, Simon nitinol, and TMA-wire facsimile filters; with the MP32-N Amplatz filter, a larger volume of thrombus (10 X 20-mm clots) was necessary for clot detection. GRE imaging allowed detection of intraluminal tilting of the percutaneous Greenfield and facsimile Amplatz (TMA-wire) filters. GRE imaging was useful for demonstrating postfilter turbulence due to clots, which was greatest for the Amplatz filter. Imaging of facsimile vascular devices made of tantalum or TMA wire did not cause the severe "black-hole" MR artifacts typical of the stainless-steel devices. SE and GRE imaging were very useful for determining caval patency in two patients with previously placed Mobin-Uddin filters. Noninvasive MR evaluation of blood vessels in the presence of a variety of low-artifact intravascular devices appears feasible.  相似文献

Antigen-specific vaccines are one of several molecularly targeted approaches under investigation as possible treatments for prostate cancer. Important to the development of vaccines is the identification of appropriate target antigens. We hypothesized that antigens of the prostate might be identified in patients with the chronic prostatitis/pelvic pain syndrome, a syndrome for which an autoimmune pathology has been proposed. Such antigens might represent naturally recognized target antigens of the prostate that could be investigated in the future as prostate tumor antigens. In this report, we used SEREX to identify proteins expressed in a prostate cDNA expression library recognized by IgG from the sera of patients with chronic prostatitis. Candidate proteins were evaluated using a panel of sera from 62 subjects with symptomatic prostatitis and 71 control male blood donors. We identified one protein that was recognized primarily in sera from subjects with prostatitis compared with controls. MAD-PRO-34, a nucleolar autoantigen, was recognized in 6/62 subjects and 0/71 controls (p = 0.00897). This protein had previously been identified as an autoantigen in patients with prostate cancer. In addition, the NY-CO-7 protein was recognized in 9/62 subjects and 3/71 controls (p = 0.0654). Two subjects had IgG specific for both the MAD-PRO-34 and NY-CO-7 gene products. Our results demonstrate that some patients with the chronic prostatitis/pelvic pain syndrome have autoantibodies to specific proteins. Proteins identified, and MAD-PRO-34 in particular, could be further investigated as potential prostate tumor antigens.  相似文献

Four patients with proved osteopetrosis (three with the infantile malignant form and one with the benign form) were examined with magnetic resonance imaging at 1.5 T. All patients were studied in the coronal and sagittal planes using both short and long repetition time/echo time sequences. The infantile malignant form was characterized by a complete lack of signal from the marrow alternating with a signal intensity equivalent to that of the intervertebral disks, resulting in a "stepladder" appearance. In the benign form or after successful marrow transplantation in the infantile malignant form, intermediate or high signal intensity in the vertebrae was noted, suggesting the presence of some marrow elements.  相似文献

A pilot vaccine study was conducted to test the safety and immunological efficacy of four monthly immunizations of an MHC class I peptide vaccine, the E75 HLA-A2 epitope from HER-2/neu, using flt3 ligand as a systemic vaccine adjuvant. Twenty HLA-A2-expressing subjects with advanced stage prostate cancer were randomly assigned to one of four immunization or treatment schedules: (a) Flt3 ligand (20 g/kg per day) administered subcutaneously daily for 14 days on a 28-day cycle, monthly for four months; (b) flt3 ligand course as above with the E75 peptide vaccine administered on day 7 of each flt3 ligand cycle; (c) flt3 ligand course as above with the E75 peptide vaccine administered on day 14 of each flt3 ligand cycle; or (d) E75 peptide admixed with granulocyte–macrophage colony-stimulating factor and administered intradermally once every 28 days, as has previously been reported. The primary endpoints of the study were the determination of safety and immunological efficacy in generating E75-specific T cells as determined by peptide-specific interferon-gamma ELIspot. Adverse events included one grade 3 skin reaction and the development of grade 2 autoimmune hypothyroidism in two subjects with preexisting subclinical autoimmune hypothyroidism. Dendritic cells were markedly increased in the peripheral blood of subjects receiving flt3 ligand with each repetitive cycle, but augmentation of antigen-presenting cells within the dermis was not observed. Apart from a single subject, no significant peptide-specific T-cell responses were detected by ELIspot, whereas delayed-type hypersensitivity responses were detectable in control subjects and in subjects receiving peptide vaccine early in the course of flt3 ligand administration. The absence of robust peripheral immune responses in the current study may be attributable to the small numbers of subjects or differences in the subject population. In addition, the inability of flt3 ligand to augment the number of peripheral skin antigen-presenting cells may have contributed to the absence of robust peptide-specific immunity detectable in the peripheral blood of immunized subjects treated with flt3 ligand.  相似文献
