In order to investigate the ameliorative potential of L-ascorbic acid on intensive swimming exercise induced testicular oxidative stress, 18 Wistar male rats (age: 3 months, weight: 127.5 ± 5.3 g) were randomly divided into the following groups: (i) control group (CG,n = 6); (ii) experimental group (EG,n = 6); and (iii) supplemented group (SG,n = 6). An exercise protocol of 3 h swimming per day, five days per week was followed for 6 weeks in EG and SG with no exercise in CG. In SG, L-ascorbic acid was supplied orally at a dose of 25-mg/kg of bodyweight each day for 6 weeks. A significant decrease (P < 0.05) was noted in paired testicular weights, epididymal sperm count, testicular Δ5, 3β-hydroxyseroid dehydrogenase, 17β-hydroxyseroid dehydrogenase, plasma levels of testosterone luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, prolactin, the numbers of preleptotine spermatocytes, midpachytene spermatocytes and stage 7 spermatids of stage VII seminiferous epithelium cycle in EG when compared with CG. A significant elevation (P < 0.05) in plasma corticosterone and testicular content of malondialdehyde along with a significant reduction (P < 0.05) in glutathione, ascorbic acid, α-tocopherol, superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione-peroxidase, and glutathione-S-transferase were noted in testes of EG compared with CG. No significant change was noted in final bodyweight or numbers of spermatogonia-A among the groups. Furthermore, L-ascorbic acid supplementation restored the above parameters to the control level. Conclusion  It can be concluded that intensive swimming exercise induced oxidative stress causes dysfunctions in the male reproductive system, which can be protected by L-ascorbic acid.  相似文献

The water-soluble glucan was obtained from Pleurotus florida fruit bodies by hot water extraction, ethanol precipitation, DEAE cellulose dialysis and Sephadex G-75 gel filtration. Central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) is an acute demyelination within the central basis pontis. Though exact mechanism is not known it is seen commonly with rapid correction of hyponatremia and also with pontine ischemia or infarction, demyelinating diseases, pontine neoplasm and different metabolic diseases. We report a rare association of CPM in a patient of Infantile Tremor Syndrom (ITS). ITS is a syndrome of tremor, mental and physical retardation, pigmentary changes of hair and skin and anemia in malnourished children. Though first reported in Indian subcontinent many identical cases were reported from around the world. Our case is a 15 month old child with generalized tremor, mild hepatosplenomegaly with features of grade II malnutrition including skin and hair changes. All the signs and symtoms of tremor improved after treatment with the World Health Organization (WHO) protocol for protein energy malnutrition (PEM) and administration of propranolol without any side effects.  相似文献

PurposeThe study is an audit of reporting dose and volume specifications as per the ICRU 58 for MUPIT-based interstitial brachytherapy in gynecological cancers. Correlation between total reference air kerma (TRAK) and isodose surface was also evaluated to understand the intensity of treatment in interstitial brachytherapy.Methods and MaterialsForty-two patients underwent HDR MUPIT-based interstitial brachytherapy 20 Gy in five fractions after EBRT during 2017–2019. Treated volume, high and low-dose regions, mean central dose, Dose Homogeneity Index (DHI), organ at risk doses, and TRAK values were computed.ResultsHigh-dose regions V150 mean was 12.4 cc and V200 was 4.58 cc; and low-dose region was 75.92 cc. The mean treated volume was 59.8 cc. The mean central dose was 3.7 Gy. DHI was 79%. The mean D2cm3 bladder and rectum were 2.9 Gy and 2.8 Gy. The mean TRAK was 0.16 cGy per fraction per hour at 1 m. TRAK values showed significant correlation with various isodose volumes (TRAK and V100: r = 0.943 p < 0.0005; and TRAK and V50: r = 0.953; p < 0.0005). A positive correlation was observed between TRAK and the number of needles (r = 0.746; p < 0.0005). At a median followup of 16 months, 4 of 42 patients (9.5%) had local recurrences.ConclusionsOur study shows compliance with ICRU 58 recommendations along with certain deviations. Local recurrence rate is acceptable. TRAK shows correlation with surface isodose in MUPIT-based brachytherapy and should to be evaluated in future studies.  相似文献

Objective:

The outcome of post-surgical recurrences of cervical cancer may be improved through radiation dose escalation, which hinges on accurate identification and treatment of the target. The present study quantifies target motion during course of image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) for vault cancers.

Methods:

All patients underwent planning CT simulation after bladder-filling protocol. A daily pre-treatment megavoltage CT was performed. All translations and rotations were recorded. Post-registration displacement of gross tumour volume (GTV) and centre of mass (COM) of GTV was independently recorded by two observers for fractions one to seven. Day 1 image sets served as reference images against which the displacements of COM were measured. We calculated the displacements of common volume (CV) and encompassing volume (EV) of GTV for both the observers.

Results:

A total of 90 image data sets of 15 patients were available for evaluation. Individual patient GTV and average GTV by both the observers were comparable. The average shifts for EV were 2.4 mm [standard deviation (SD) ±1.2] in the mediolateral, 4.2 mm (SD ±2.8) in the anteroposterior and 4.0 mm (SD ±2.1) in superoinferior directions. Similarly, the average shifts for CV were 1.9 mm (SD ±0.6) in the mediolateral, 3.7 mm (SD ±2.7) in the anteroposterior and 4.4 mm (SD ±2.7) in superoinferior directions. Using Stroom''s/van Herk''s formula, the minimum recommended margins would be 4.5/5.2, 8.2/9.4 and 7.3/8.3 mm, respectively, for lateral, anteroposterior and superoinferior directions.

Conclusion:

Differential directional internal margin is recommended in patients undergoing IGRT for post-surgical recurrence of cervical cancers.

Advances in knowledge:

Internal organ motion of vault cancers can be accounted for by a directional margin to the gross tumour.  相似文献

Cloned DNA-B components, belonging to the bipartite begomoviruses Indian cassava mosaic virus (ICMV) and Sri Lankan cassava mosaic virus (SLCMV), family Geminiviridae, when co-inoculated along with previously cloned DNA-A components of the respective viruses onto the experimental host Nicotiana benthamiana, generated defective DNAs (def-DNA) ranging in size from 549 to 1555 nucleotides. All the cloned def-DNAs contained the common region (CR) as well as portions of either DNA-A or DNA-B and, in a few cases, both DNA-A and DNA-B, representing recombinant products, the junction points of which correspond to repeats of 2-11 bases found in the parental molecules. The DNA-B-derived def-DNAs were, in some cases, associated with a decrease in levels of DNA-B, with a concomitant change in the symptoms from downward leaf curling in the older leaves to upward leaf-rolling in newly emerging leaves, more typical of monopartite begomoviruses.  相似文献
